Most likely has a low refrigerant level due to a slow leak.you can call for service and have them add some gas to the system and it could be ok for a long time or if they can locate and repair the leak,it would solve the problem.call a few service companies and explain the problem.Ask how much each option would cost and decide if the frig is worth it

Freezer ok, ont cooling on refrigerator side

First thing to check is if the evaporator fan motor is running behind the rear panel in the inside of the freezer if you cannot feel the air flowing replace the motor. If when you take the rear panel off giving you access to the evaporator coil you find that the evaporator coil is iced up or has any ice build up on it you would have to defrost this ice build up and if you had this build up this is known as a defrost issue in which either the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, or the defrost timer or adaptive control board has a fault. I will await your reply till after you remove the rear panel on the inside of the freezer before giving further solution due to if there is no ice build up and if the fan motor is working then you would look at the refrigerator side either the diverter aka damper door or the refrigerator thermostat control. Thanks again I await your reply to your finds

My refrigerator is making a loud purring sound. What can I do to make it stop?

It is so common that the fridge can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that fridge is vibrating when it is running then the compressor motor fittings has to be inspected. check the mounting of the motor , check for SYMPATHETIC vibrations to the plastic body /rear covers that can produce these loud purrings. If so tighen the clips or use some rubber damper sticker- one side sticker with padding- so as to reduce the vibration and noise.

My ice maker not making enough ice . I have already check the water. thank you

When an icemaker slows production, the problem is not the icemaker at all but the temps in the freezer warming up because of an airflow problem either in the freezer compartment evaporator coils or underneath the unit that being the condenser coils. (Fan not working or lint blockage)
Airflow problems in the freezer compartment are caused by the fan or the automatic defrost system not functioning properly so yu end up with an ice block / lots of frost in the freezer compartment on the back wall of the compartment.

Check for ice or large amounts of frost in the freezer compartment. If you note ice / excessive frost, unplug the unit, empty the freezer compartment and do a manual defrost by directing an external fan into the compartment for just over 2 hours. This will ensure the evaporator coils and the freezer compartment drain have thawed. While the manual defrost is in progress remove the rear fiberboard cover from the compressor access and check / clean the condensor coils and fan area.
After 2 hours clean up the excess water.. reassemble the rear cover and return the unit to NORMAL service. It should start making lots of ice in 4 to 6 hours. Here is the kicker... if there is an auomatic defrosting problem your icemaker will after 2 - 3 days again slow ice producion and ice will build up in the evaporator area. You will have to keep repeating the manual defrosting process every 3 to 4 days until the automatic defrost system is repaired.

There are 3 main components of the Automatic defrost system:
1. Defrost control
2. Defrost heater
3. Defrost thermostat or depending on type thermistor

Most of the time the problem is either the defrost control or the heater that fails and the unit stops defrosting.

Our two door samsung has making noise from the motor and when you open the door it will stop. jackie.brincat@bigpond.com

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

The noise that stops when you open the door is the evaporator fan. If it sounds like blades striking something there is most likely too much ice in the evaporator coils and the fan blades are striking the built up ice. If it sounds like a vibration it can be bad bearings inthe evaporatof fan motor.

Ice build up is usually a sign of an automatic defrost circuit problem. The unit should defrost close to 3 times a day depending on the defrost control installed. What you should do is do a manual defrost session by unplugging the unit, removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. This will ensure that all of the evaporator coil ice has melted. (Yes it makes a water mess) Tidy things up and return the unit to normal service after your manual defrost session. NOTE: If you have an automatic defrosting problem the fan noise can repeat in as little as 2 days as the ice once again builds up on the evaporator coils.

DO the manual defrost, LISTEN for noise after 24 - 48 hours. No noise... no worries, NOISE after 24 - 48 hours = Defrost problem. Causes of a defrost problem can be the defrost control, defrost heating element, the defrost thermostat or a wiring problem.

The right side of the fridge is not cooling well. the freezer is fine, but it also making a strange noise

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
That strange noise your hearing is probably the fan blades of the evaporator fan striking ice build up on the evaportor coils. This symptom is typical of and automadefrosting problem.... or someone left the freezer door open for a very long period.
You can try doing a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and place a fan blowing into the freezer compartment / compartment making noise for about 2 hours. (makes a water mess) After 2 hours tend to the water mess and restart the unit. Most likely the noise you heard will be gone... for a few days. If you have an automatic defrost problem the noise will return in about 72 hours as the ice build up gets larger on the evaporator coils.

Depending on date of manufacture this unit can have either a manual defrost timer or an adaptive defrost control board that controls the automatic defrost. .

My refrigerator side is making a grinding noise and today I noticed that it is warm. the freezer side is fine. I have a frigidaire frs26kf6e.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

That grinding noise is usually ice build up on the evaporator coils to the point that the evaporator fan blades strike the ice build up. i.e. Possibly an automatic defrosting problem.

Here is what you can do to find out.

1. Unplug the refrigerator
2. Remove the contents from the freezer section
3. Place a fan blowing into the freezer compartment for a little over 2 hours. THIS MAKES A WATER MESS so be prepared.
4. After the manual defrosting period with the fan then reload the freezer.
5. Plug the unit back in
6. After 4 hours recheck your freezer and fresh food section temps.
7. You should no longer hear the grinding sound

It is highly probable that the ice build up will repeat. If it does then for sure you have an automatic defrosting problem and will need to service the defrosting problem. At least you will know what caused the grinding noise.

If after all of this that grinding noise you heard is still present you will have to check the evaporator fan assembly for signs of bearing wear.
If the grinding noise is coming from the compressor... bad news the compressor rotor is dragging and that requires a compressor replacement.

GSH25JFRFWW evaporator fan makes loud deep noise at times

GE refrigerators have a faulty design, and so don't defrost completely, so ice builds up in the evaporator coils and on and in the evap. fan motor. Melting the ice will make the fridge more efficient, and the fan quiet again.

The slow, easy way to fix is take out all the food, unplug the fridge, leave doors open all day. Ice will melt, and all will be fine ... for a few months, until the ice builds up again. The fast way is here.

Ice build-up in lower freezer. We replaces the

warm between doors is normal. if hot then clean coils and if coils clean make sure condenser fan motor working thats the fan in the back compartment, however if warm thats good. did the evaporator coil freeze from top to btm is that why u replaced heater. if it was then could be heater,if the coil is only getting frost on half the coil, you could have a sealed system problem. is the evaporator motor working in the frz side if not, then that could be the problem.if coil is froze up it needs to be defrosted. did you defrost coil when you replaced heater,if not try defrosting coils and then wait about 12 hrs and see how it does.
