Hello,
There are two ways to delete the protected files.

1. Formatting the internal memory or "Memory Stick Duo" erases all data stored on the recording media, even if the images are protected, and these images can not be restored.

2. Just select the protected sign (key) to turn it to gray from green. Then press OK button shown in the below figure. The center button is OK. If you press again, it turns to green to protect your file. Press again to unprotect it.

That is all.

As I don't have a Sony, I can't walk you through the steps, but I can tell you what to do. You're going to have to go into your camera menu to unlock the pictures. Refer to your manual, and look for the steps to lock, unlock, protect your pictures, then follow the steps. If you don't have your manual, you can often download them for free, just google "Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 Digital Camera Manual" and you will find the options. Some sites charge, but some are free .pdf downloads- look for those. Hope these hints help, and good luck!

You may have protected (locked) some of the pics. Playback your pics, look for a little key symbol and unlock the file by using the playback menu.
Hope that helps.

Its possible that the format pic isn't compatible with the programs installed in the laptop, or anyone program (image) is settitngs to open this format pic; check it and tell us news.

If you are deleted the images, could try recovery with this Sony software: SonyPhotoRecovery

Hope this helps (remember to arte and comment this).

Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera keeps giving me a memory card error. The memory card is a 4gig PNY memory card (lower budget)

Make sure the slide switch on the side of the card is unlocked. Your camera may just want you to format the card in the camera. Download any pics from it first using a card reader if necessary.

Can i delete batches of pic

If your camera's memory is structured as most, you can treat the internal memory like any disk drive. If you have a PC with Windows, plug in your Sony via the USB port, go to 'My Computer' select a disk drive with a later letter than C or D and open it as you would any other drive. You may have nested folders requiring that you open several folders in succession. You will recognize having arrived when you have a bunch of individual files shown in Explorer with the suffix Sony uses (commonly .jpg) and you canmanipulate them as you would any other files, including deletion.

Cannot find the following folder for media file import

It's very difficult to follow exactly what you did. The easiest solution may be to use a card reader to download your pictures to a folder you create on your desktop. Next time, don't overload your card.

Photos are saved out of order. I take 100 pics, delete 15 or so, and when I take another pic, it is out of order, basically taking the spots of the photos that were deleted. Any suggestions?

The file system that is setup gives a file name to each picture as they are taken. so like pic001, pic002, pic003, and so on.

so if you take those three pictures, and delete the second one, it does not rename all the pictures after it. It will just fill the hole. So for example,

you take three pics.

pic1 pic 2 pic3.

then you delete pic2.

pic1 --- pic3

Then you take your fourth pic, it becomes pic2, because that space is empty.

That is how the camera is programed. I don't believe there is any way to change it.
