Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a 3380 HP 4 in 1. I get an error to turn on and off. The it says " scanner bulb warming up, but the light only moves about a 1/4 inch and I have to turn on & off about 40 times and leave off for a about a day. When the light gets to the end it bounces a couple of times before it returns back to the other end.

Turn off your printer first, and disconnect ALL cables connected to it, including the one linking the printer to the computer and leave it like that for aroung 15 to 20 minutes.

While waiting, do this in your computer: open the printer queue by going to Control Panel> Printers and Faxes> HP printer. Once the queue window pops open, cancel or delete everything in there. If you don't see anything there, that's fine.

After all the waiting is done, reconnect everything, and it should be good.

I tried that many times before, plus the I only use the fax and copier, no USB cable connected.

You can try this procedure that I wrote for the 3380. It works the same. click here

If this does not resolve the problem it is likely that you would need to replace the scanner mechanism.

How does the bulb look? Is it bright or kind of dim. The bulb warming error is designed to halt use of the machine until the scanner bulb reaches the correct output level. As these are basically a flourescent tube, they will dim over time and at a certain point they will not generate enough light to enable proper scanning. If the bulb is dim, it will require replacement.

The "scanner warming up" error is caused by dirty optics in the scanner assembly. You will need to dis-assemble the scanner and clean the mirrors with window cleaner and lint free towels and Q-tips. We have a stap by step walk thru article on our web site at: The repair should take about 30-45 minutes to perform. The repair will require you to dis-assemble the scanner unit so be prepared to do a little work but when finished your printer will work just like new.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

The panel on my laserjet 3380 says scanner erroe power off power

You need to clean the small mirror film. Repeatedly turning on and off the printer will move the scanner head to the left. When it makes it to it's final position remove the screw and using a qtip gently wipe the thin mirror film next to the light bulb. This will clean the dust that is causing the error. some say use alcohol on the qtip i never used it. Once it's clean the scanner will return to it's original position and resume function. return side glass and screw, and you should not have that error until it's once again dirty.

Fax and cancel lights are flashing

I found this solution at HP website. It worked for me. Good luck!

A Scanner Bulb Error message is received as a result of the HP LaserJet 3300mfp series product scanner’s inability to find the home reference point.
Perform the following steps to walk the scan assembly from the home base and resolve the issue.
1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to “walk out" and then quickly remove the plug again.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.

You may want to remove the glass and clean the underside of the glass and the lamp, also whatever mirrors and lenses there may be. It sounds like it is not setting up properly and the glass and mirrors getting hazy can cause that.
