Flotec Float switch did not automatically shut off, enginburn out

Flotec floater switch does not automatically shut off, which has caused the motor to just run and not shut off in the past. This is the back-up pump. Trying to find out what I can do to replace the float switch or is there a malfunction with this Flotec model no. FPSC4550A, Sta-Rite Industries Cast Iron Pump 3/4Hp. If someone could help my brother and I it would be greatly appreciated. If you have more questions for us and need more detail, I'll be available all day to provide more detail. Hi Lamont .. I would first check test the float switch and make sure that it is faulty, set it up in a tub of water and manually move the float switch. see if it cycles on and off. sometimes the float will get hung up on its support or on the edges of the sump pit. If the float switch is faulty then YES it can be replaced,. try a building supply store like home depot or the pl;ace where you got the switch originally.

How do I get the sump pump floater to work?

Is the floater on a dongle cord or does the floater slide up an down on a shaft? Are you saying the floater won't float? It seems if you can raise the floater up which contains the switch and it works, it should work when liquid makes the float rise. Is the sump placed low enough in the liquid to ensure the float will rise high enough to turn on?

The pump should start by itself and shut off by itself as well. The float switch needs replacing. If new, return it. If you want to test the pump, separate the two plugs and plug in the one that leads to the main pump body.

Pump will not stop runningmjn

This seems like a switch problem resulting in dry cycling. Can you turn on/off the pump by lifting the float switch? Is your switch attached or plugged in to your pump? I believe your on your model it is hard-wired. If so, bring it back to the retailer/wholesaler from whom you bought it.

I have a Flotec pump model #FPSC4550A that will not stop running even though the float falls down. Any ideas?

Sounds like the contact inside the float is stuck. It can be corroded and not letting the circuit open and that will keep the pump running.
If it had been fine but just started doing this, that is what I'd check. If someone could have accidentally wired it incorrectly when they were trying to fix it, perhaps they accidentally bypassed the float switch and have it "running hot" all the time.

Hello, the pump motor is controlled by the float switch. If your motor is running constantly even when you move the float switch around, then I would say that either the switch is shorted internally, or the wires going to the switch are shorted, thusly causing the motor to run. Is the float on a separate adapter to the pump, or is it wired into the pump?

I have a flotec model 1m03w fp053200a-o8 1.5 hp sump pump. It run all the time now, the only way it shuts off is if its unplugged. Do I need to replace it, or can it be repaired? Thanks for your time

If you have the pump pictured, there is a float switch in the big round thing that floats. When this float drops, the switch should open and pump should shut off.
Make sure that the pump plug is plugged into the piggyback type float plug.

Flotec website shows several submersible sump pumps, and pump types:

Click product, then click on 'parts and literature' to access manual
Here is a Flotec manual:

Manual for this type of sump pump says:
Quote from manual: Automatic float switch is sealed and factory adjusted for
most home sumps. Turn-on water level is 10" - 12" above
pump base. Turn-off water level is 4" - 6".

The manual also says that running the pump when dry will ruin the seals.
This implies that the water level setting is set so the seals will not be damaged

You might be able to dig the sump deeper, but I don't know if that meets your objective.

Sump pump will not stop. Float is moving freely with nothing in the way. I moved float fully downward and pump does not stop till I unplug it. Please help! Email is Thanks!

the pump should not shut off until you move the float fully upward. You should feel the switch actually click when the float is raised. If it doesn't make a clicking noise then something is obstructing the float from being able to rise to its full height.

The entire float ARM, ie the part that is connected to the motor, has to move up and down with the float or it will not work.
