"Windows has detected an IP address conflict"

If all looks good try right clicking on network status icon in sys tray and use repair. A more advance option would be to use ipconfig from the command prompt.

Start > Run (search in Win 7) > type ipconfig /release. Then ipconfig /renew. ipconfig ? will show you all the options. Good luck.

I installed the compact wireless g usb adapoter on a desktop in basement of my house approx. 2 years ago and it was fine. I need to tell you that at that time I had satilette iwth wild blue and a linksys...

My experience is limited with such things.

Connecting the computer to the router with a cable I found was an instant success with three different routers and two different service providers (and several computers).

I fitted a couple of generic wireless adaptors also without incident. Each wireless adaptor arrived with a mini disc and instructions to load the drivers before plugging in the usb adaptor and ten minutes larter I was looking at a list of available wireless networks and being asked to choose one and the enter the password that is written on the underside of the router.

Once I used the Windows wizard to set up a wireless network and similarly had no trouble. I don't think it is necessary to configure the computer to a particular modem and I have not heard others speak of such a thing. Apart from needing the driver for the usb wireless adaptor there it all should happen automatically

Once the driver is installed and the adaptor plugged in, it should be obvious whether it is working because it should detect nearby wireless networks - but it won't connect with any of them unless you click on a particular one. It will only be possible to connect to open wireless or the one or ones you have the password for.

Once the computer is connected it should get the IP address automatically and then connect to the internet..

I have a sneaking suspicion you are thinking too deeply about this. The internet these days is almost foolproof - it has to be for me to get it to work.

Perhaps your operating system is seriously corrupted...

I have a 2 wire adaptor and comcast internet a motorola modem. i really need to know can these two work together and what would be the network key?

Yes they should be able to. You will need to contact comcast on how to obtain your network key. Have them instruct you on how to chage the security to WEP if it is not already there.

Hook up wireless interenet

Did you by any chance give you router the mac address on the wireless card? Do you have the comcast version of a netgear wireless router? Any wireless router will do also. Does not have to be netgear or from comcast. You can get online by the network cable right?. Where else are you trying to connect to wirelessly?

Let me know
