Question about ViewSonic VA912 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I have VA912b whose picture has gone away all together. When the power button is turned off then back on again the picture comes on for a split second then goes away. I have plugged in another monitor which works fine on the same cables. What most likely would be the problem?

First please make usre that the PC Video card resolution is set to he native resolution, 1280 x 1024 @60Hz. Hopefully you will not have the caps problem which you may want to check. please see my pictures here (I will not be surprised if it does have bad caps):

Va912b monitor - when booting up, monitor only displays for 2 seconds - need to turn monitor on/off until I can enter the Vista password - display doesn't work until I can begin typing after desktop boots...

I will assume that you already try this monitor with other PC already, if that the case, you will need to open it up and inspect the capacitors in the power supply, look for caps with bulging top, see pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VA912B/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

When i pressed the power button, the notebook didn't turned on.

Assuming that the laptop either had the battery fully charged, or the power plug is supplying the power.

The issue may be the power button. I have had some break. It is very interesting how flimsy some of those buttons are attached.

If you can remove the top bezel that covers the power button you may get a better look.

The power can be actuated by a small button not much bigger than a pin.

Good luck

Screen flashes on then goes dark

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
