Re: Treadmill will not start - say "Safe" on the Monitor
I'm not overly familiar with the Landice treadmills, although it sounds like it's not registering the safety key. Usually either a magnetic key or a slide key. Make sure your safety key is making good contact and if it's a magnetic key, that there's actually a magnet in it (sometimes they fall out without anyone noticing). If it's a key that you slide in to activate, see if there's any play in the port when you put the key in (wiggle it around) and if that works, the contact switch is slightly out of place. If the magnet is present and it's still not registering, either the reed switch inside the console has shifted and is too far away from the key magnet or it's malfunctioning (broken reed, shorted wire etc.)

First after you boot it up normally (not Safe Mode) can you move the mouse far to the left or to the right do you see the mouse. If you do see the mouse pointer you are running dual monitor mode and the laptop screen is set as the primary monitor. You have to run it in Save Mode and set the external monitor as the primary monitor. Hit the Start button then select Help+Support and in the search box enter "dual monitors". Read how to set up the primary monitor.
Second maybe you need to activate the external monitor. When laptops boot normally (not Safe Mode again) with a external monitor connected you have to hit the Fn (function) key (probably blue near Alt key) and some other number key (it probably has a blue monitor symbol on it) I'm not sure which one. This key sequence is a toggle sequence. In other words when you boot a laptop it goes directly to the laptop screen then the first time you do a Fn + number key combination it will turn on the external monitor and turn off the laptop screen the next time you push Fn+number key it will turn on both monitors (external and laptop screen) the third time it will turn on only the laptop screen and so forth.
I think the issue is your monitor. If the monitor constantly says Power
Save Mode and not let anything else display then the monitor might be
bad. See if we can isolate the problem by the steps below.
Try booting up in Safe Mode and see if the monitor works ok.
Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it
back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE
MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look
different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is
normal. If it works ok in safe mode then the monitor is ok and we might have an issue with a setting.
Try connecting another monitor to your computer. Borrow a monitor
from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the
computer. If the Borrowed monitor works ok, then your original monitor
is bad. If the Borrowed monitor does the same thing as your original
monitor then the issue is with the computer (possibly the video card).
Turn off and unplug the unit
before making any adjustments. Check the belt alignment on the
treadmill. If the treadmill is making noise or you smell burnt rubber,
the belt may be loose or out of alignment. There should be a belt roller
on the side or the front of the unit. You can use a hex wrench or an
adjustable wrench to loosen the belt so it can be properly aligned. Make
sure you tighten the belt so it does not rub against the machine.
Consult the user manual for specific instructions in adjusting the belt.
Reposition the heart rate
monitor. If the monitor does not show a reading, it may need to be
repositioned. The monitor should be placed against your skin so the
sensor is facing toward your body and the HealthRider logo is facing
away from you. The monitor will only work if you stay on the treadmill,
walking in the middle of the belt.
Test the hand grip monitors for a
correct reading. These are the metal plates that are secured to the
hand railing. If the plates are dirty, they may not function correctly.
Wipe them clean with a damp cloth. Your palm will need to wrap
completely around the plates at all times for a proper reading.
Reset the unit if the treadmill
still does not function correctly. Unplug the unit from the electrical
outlet. Leave it unplugged for about one minute and then turn the
machine back on. Remove the safety key from the treadmill and reinsert
it into the key slot. Taking out the key will reset the unit, clearing
all memory and resetting it to factory defaults.
The reason behind the out of range (frequency of monitor) because the video display adapter is trying to set resolution more than what the monitor (screen) is capable of. In this case, try to boot your computer in Safe Mode using F8 function key while starting your computer. Once you are in safe mode, try to decrease the resolution of monitor to the lowest resolution level and apply the settings. Now try to boot computer in normal mode once again, you will get the settings which you have applied in safe mode. Adjust the screen resolution accordingly till the settings work with the monitor (screen).
will video work when first booting?? try to start in safe mode then if you have restore disk or applications disk remove the display video in hardware manager, sometimes the drivers get corrupted, thei may re-install video drivers. al so you might go into bios and check for setup defaults hope this works. have had similar situations on diffirerent systems. some laptops have a Fn key Function key so when you have external monitor up to system it switched=s from laptop monitor to external little picture on keys usually on or near function keys.
This mean that you unit is not equiped with a receiver inside the treadmill. Some models that was an option. Polar is the only brand that works with Lifefitness. You may have a bad upper display board. You can buy a replacement for a small amount of money.
Did you try to start in safe mode? Turn on the laptop and start tapping the <F8> key. This will bring you to a menu with different options and select ‘Safe mode”. If that doesn’t work, try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. You may have to select the video output to display on the external monitor by holding down the blue <FN> key and pressing the blue CRT/LCD (located on one of the <F> keys, like F8,F9, etc..). If the laptop display works in safe mode, then you probably have a video software driver problem. If the display works on the external monitor in normal mode, then you probably have a problem with either your LCD panel. Hope this helps. By the way, the "9" led with the pad lock means your "Num Lock" is enabled. Your responses are intended to improve the level of service provided. Please rate your experience. Thank You.
I have a hanns g 22" widepanel , I had the same problem with lockout. I had my monitor disc and looked on it, or in a manual if you still have it. Here is the combination I had to press and it worked. I pressed the arrow buttons and the menu button all together a few times and it unlocked. Try that!
Function Key Lock: Press the <「Volume -」, >「Volume +」and the 「Menu」buttons simultaneously to enable the Function Key Lock. When the Function Key Lock is enabled, only the Power button is active. Press the <「Volume -」, >「Volume +」and the 「Menu」buttons simultaneously again to unlock the function keys.
