My c655 wouldn't start...after 10 minutes it did; ran toshiba diagnostics and said hard drive fail..what's up?

It means that it cannot read the sectors on your HDD that are required for a successful boot. The only way to try and fix it is to do a complete format and clean install of your OS. There are programs that can be used to re-write boot sectors, but they are really only for the very experienced. If you have songs and pics that you need to save before you format it, I suggest hooking the drive up to a desktop computer and accessing the files that way. You can then copy them to a jump drive or CD. Make sure that if you re-format the drive, that you choose the full format and not the quick. Quick format can leave residual files on your drive and may corrupt or conflict with a new Windows installation. Hope this helps.

System error 00200060 NO SYSTEM FOUND ON HDD ona Toshiba MEGF40. I tried firmware upgrade, reformatting but not working hellp me

Okay, here's what you need to do. I'm assuming at some point yours like mine was formatted under windows. This is bad for them lol. Locate your copy of gigabeat room, and install it. This comes with a extra program in the start menu titled formatting utility for gigabeat. Format with this program, and then look under program files/toshiba/gigabeatroom/GBsystem. Copy GBsystem to the gigabeat, then turn the battery off with the switch on the bottom for thirty seconds. That should do it.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!

This can only be done with a computer running USB 1.0. My newer computers could not "see" the gigabeat properly. I used an old machine with outdated USB to get mine to work again :) you can also check for aftermarket firmware called Rock Box, just installed that one mine, no more converting music to *.sat, it'll take straight mp3s now just like it should :) uploaded 20 gigs to it in less than half an hour :) beats the hell out of waiting ten hours for 8 gigs lol!

I decided to upgrade the hard drive to a Western Digital 250 Gig from the original 30 Gig. I also added the RAM module-- making it 512 now. The problem is that after loading the original restore CD's that...

is it formatted as NTFS FAT32 file system can only reconize 127 you must enable largr drive in the setup. but if you are using a image it wont give you that choice you will need to get a windows xp disk and use the driver / program disk to install you original software. you can also partition the drive into two particians to separate and it will then reconize the drives then you can mount the othe drive to a folder and then reclain all the drive space.

Win98 hds in win xp dont show other program says not formatted

you will need to revert back to the master/slave setting.  As slave/slave neither disk will be the main controller. Try reverse the master disk to the slave, and the slave to master, as it may be that the controller has a fault which is why you were having the original win98 problem.  Let me know how you get on

How do i format the seagate 5400 160 gig hard drive?

Configuring the BIOS
After completing the drive installation, restart your computer. Your computer
may automatically detect your new drive. If your computer does not
automatically detect your new drive, follow the steps below.
1. Restart your computer. While the computer restarts, run the system
setup program (sometimes called BIOS or CMOS setup). This is usually
done by pressing a special key, such as DELETE, ESC, or F1 during
the startup process.
2. Within the system setup program, instruct the system to auto detect
your new drive.
3. Save the settings and exit the setup program.
When your computer restarts, it should recognize your new drive.

Hard drive from gateway solo pro 40 gig will it work in toshiba

I'm pretty sure it will. The only thing is that Gateways of that generationn used a custom connector which plugs onto the hard disks standard IDE / ATA connector.Just pull this extra connector off and you can use the disk in any machine.
Also ,Toshiba used similar adapters,so if Toshiba's using one on your model, then you'll need to palce the toshiba adapter onto the hard disk from your Gateway. You may also have to go into your BIOS ,and make sure the BIOS recognizes the disk if your BIOS isn't already set to "auto detect".

Transferring to another notebook HDD and finding problems

did you copy your operation system onto your new hard drive? Must of the time they a hidden file that the manufacture does not want you to find. If you did the you may have to go to your bios and make sure that it's set to boot from your e dr1ive first because that 's where the operating system is on.

It seems to me that when the drive was partitioned, the whole thing was not partitioned. If using Windows XP you can go under the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management and then Disk Management. You should be able to see the drive and if any unpartitioned space is available.
