My partner spilled about half a glass of olive oil on her Dell Inspiron mini 10. I removed the keyboard and HD, cleaned what I could, and it's working. She's afraid that that the oil will kill the computer eventually. Any advice? Is it safe as it's been working for a good bit already?
The problem you might see is the keyboard gumming up. The oil will combine with dust in the air etc and create mud/muck inside the keyboard. Or it will mess up the contacts and keys will not work or act up.
Some people actually use oil as a computer coolant. They take the computer guts and put it in a container ie fish tank filled with oil. I know olive oils have been tried but the complaints were smells and clumping (gumming up). So I wouldn;t worry about it killing the laptop but more the keyboard acting up eventually or it just smelling like a bad salad. ;-]
Count yourself lucky other things like coke or beer can kill it dead within a few minutes.
To my knowledge it might end that way, though theres a chance not to, because i am using silicon oil, which also of course oil, for my aquarium-cpu, and to my belief olive oil doesnt have much water content to destroy your laptop..... that pretty fast

Twenty to thirty percent of an olive is oil. 20% of 80 pounds is 16 pounds. 30% is 24 pounds.
A gallon of olive oil weighs 7.6 pounds. Four quarts are in a US gallon. 2.22 Gallon from 16 pounds of olive oil. That is 8.88 quarts from 16 pounds of olive oil if you are getting 20% of oil from the 80 pounds of olive. If you are getting 30% of oil from the 80 pounds of olive oil, then your get about 12.6 quarts. So, the answer would seem to be between 8.88 and 12.6 quarts, I supposed depending upon how "pressed" the olives are.
My math is right but one does have to assume that the the data upon which I have based it is correct. I am not an expert in olive oil production and have relied on figures I have obtained from the internet. You can bet that producers of olive oil know exactly how much oil they can squeeze out of 80 pounds of olives. And therefore you might choose to see how far a county extension agent might go to get you the information or you can try an email to organizations such as:
Pretty much. Just read the ingredients. You want pure virgin olive oil. That is all the ingredients will say. Pure Virgin Olive oil. Anything else with it, it not pure. Just like everything else. You want green beans? then the ingredients will only say "green beans" If you want organic. the label will say organic, the virgin olive oil.
Hi there!
The motherboard of your Dell Inspiron Mini 10 needs to be replace. If you don't have the Complete Care warranty, then Dell will not replace it for free. I suggest you contact Dell Technical Support and asked them how much it will cost to replace it. Also, check how much a new computer will cost and compare it to the price of replacing the motherboard. You can have an idea if its cheaper to replace the motherboard or to buy a new one.
Hope this helps
You can try to clean under the keys with a can of compressed air, and see if there are any results. If not, your keyboard may be damaged and may need to be sent to Dell for Repairs.
