It sounds like the pins on the VGA cable are not in tightly, but it can also have problem in power supply which is very common in this monitor as shown in my pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VX2235W/
Sotry it on another PC and check the cable first.
