Question about Apple iBook Mac Notebook

1 Answer

AOL connection is being denied.

When I open up safari, I have my AOL welcome screen as my main page.  But as I open it, I can see in the address box that there are two addresses jumping back a forth.  www.aol.com and https://my.screenname.aol.com/ ...with a whole bunch of other stuff after this one.  Then in the blank white screen (that normally turns to the welcome screen when connected) has a message for me, The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable - please try your request again.. *But when I do, same thing keeps happening.
I was once told to clear my past address or cookies or something like that, every so often to prevent this from happening...but I've forgotten how.  Help please :)

Open Safari, go to the menu bar at the top, click Safari, then you should see a list with "Empty Cache"

I have a Mac- lost my telus homepage-how do i get it back????

Hi Jeanne.
Open Safari browser. In the search bar at the top pre the address of the website you are wanting (telus.com) for example and hit the "return" key on your keyboard.
Once you are on the telus page, navigate to the exact page you would like to open every time you start Safari. Example "My Account".
Then click on the name "Safari" to the top left of your screen, next to the Apple logo.
Select "Preferences". A settings box will appear, make sure you select the "General" tab at the top left of this settings box if it isn't already the main window.
you will then see the name "Homepage:" with a field to the right of it. Under the name "Homepage" though you will see a box that says "Set to Current Page", select that and the field above will populate with the current telus webpage you navigated to earlier.
From then onwards, each time you open Safari, it will present you with the telus page you require.

I am trying to play this Educational DVD that uses Safari to open it. As instructed I click on AmenuDisc1 web page (htm) file that used to take me to play screens for topics. However altho now initial

Safari doesn't actually open DVD's. Your DVD is read by your DVD program on the Mac and may contain hyperlinks hence the reason Safari opens and plays content. The content is actually online if it is using Safari not on the disc. You are on a menu page with the hyperlinks of a DVD ('a Menu Disc 1') and the Mac isn't opening the link. You can try downloading and installing Firefox as a different browser to rule out the browser's fault. The links on the educational page can be dead and don't link anymore? If the problem lies with the disc reader sometimes dust can cover the laser light used to read the disc and blowing inside by 'authorized dealer' may have stirred up said dust. Occasionally blowing in the side can dislodge a bit of dust and set the reader free. Try another disc in the reader and rule out the fault of the reader. If Firefox doesn't work, nor does clicking on the links of the DVD the fault is likely on the internet end of the DVD. .htm could possibly be having issues on the server end because as a hypertext link 'address' it is oldish vs html [and now html5!] and though not likely a problem MIGHT be but another browser should show that.

How do I find my home page?

Quit the browser by pressing Command + Q together. Then open the browser again. If that worked you should see your home page. If you want to get back to your home page quicker next time you can turn on the home button in the navigation bar. It's not there by default but you can add it.

It would be helpful to know if you are using Safari or Chrome or some other browser. My bet is on Safari so here's how to do that in Safari.

1. In the gray area next to the address bar, right click or ctrl + click this empty gray space and you will see an option to "Customize Toolbar..." Click on that option.
2. In this next window that appears drag the home button onto the toolbar.

How could I change the main screen by default when I use another screen with the laptop

I am guessing that you are referring to your "Home Page"
If so, click on Safari, then Preferences, then General.
You can then type in a specific address or click to set it to the page you are on at the time. It will then make that your home page which will open each time you open Safari. I hope that was what you were asking.

Why when I open safari, do i get error 404(not found)1

Error 404 is for when the web page you are requesting is not found, this means that your connection to the site etc is fine but the certain page you are requesting if not available.

You will be fine to ignore this error and continuing to use the internet by entering a website or search term into the bar at the top of Safari, as shown in the image below.

The error may be coming up as you have set your default page to a page that is no longer available, this can be changed by clicking on "Safari" in the top left of the screen then clicking on "Preferences..."

A new window will appear.

Enter the site you want to be the homepage when you open Safari in the location that says Homepage. You can enter what is shown or a page or search engine like "http://www.google.com".

Hope this helps.

How to connect facebook to my safari browser and get gmail delivered to my mail

Safari is the chosen browser it sounds like and Chrome is your preference for which search engine will be used. Breathe. This is a preference change that is a couple of straightforward clicks from being exactly how you want it.

1. Close everything so we limit confusion if thats ok.
2. Click on Safari at the bottom of your screen to open your Safari browser.
3. Once open, click on the word Safari at the top of your computer screen next to the picture of the apple in the top left corner. Thats the menu bar and what we want. Don't over think it and try to find something in the actual browser window.
4. When you single click Safari a list will appear with About Safari at the top. We want to select (click) the third one down that says preferences.
5. This will cause a large square box to appear in the middle of your screen. It has General centered at the top.
6. Get excited because your almost done.
7. Just below General in the first 2 square boxes are your "preferences" for your browser and search engine. They should say google or chrome for your search engine based on your question. Click the box and change the preference to Safari or whatever you would like to use.
8. You did it. Dance a jig and be a wildcat. Change those whenever you want.

If you have more problems then ask again. 40fb01b8-8524-45fc-83da-3bef201284a0.png a0d46401-fdaa-4b2d-a144-7fe9fc93d17b.png

Why can't I get on a safari page?

you might have parental controls blocking you. You might not have internet. Troubleshoot your internet connection, your access to all sites, and make sure you've typed in the correct address of the page.
