Question about Swintec 7040 Typewriter

1 Answer

Swintec 8016 is typing in code!

The letters typed on the page do not match the keys on the keyboard. Maybe there's a setting somewhere that thinks I'm using a different language?

I have a Swintec 8016 that doesn't have a "print" key. How do I print stored files?

Hi Linda, Once upon a time, I worked on Swintec typewriters. When you speak of printing do you mean to an external printer or just allowing the thy writer to to type out of memory? What kind of printer, what type of external port. Did it ever work? With what printer? I,m not familiar with this particular typewriter , give me as much info as you can , I mean anything you can think of . The smallest detail can tip the scale. You stated there is no print key, that tells me there must be an alternative way to print. let me know what you find out. If you can take a picture of the plug ports on the back and the keyboard, in this case a picture is worth more than words! Good luck. Bret... I have just started using an old swintec 8016 select series typewriter and do not know how to release and set margins

I believe you go to the margin you want to change, touch don't hold the mar. rel. key (top L. of keyboard) then space or backspace to the desired location, press L. of R. margin key on the L. side of the keyboard.

When typing does not print whole letter or doesn't print at all.

it would help if i knew exactly what model # we are talking about. but try this. look closely at your ribbon film after you type some characters. are the letters overlapping themselves? if so, press and hold the "code" key down while pressing the period key. let up and try typing. if that doesn't help, write back with model # and maybe i can assist further.

Need to change the font size

you would have to buy a new printwheel and change the pitch setting (which is a switch on the left side of the keyboard tha has 10, 12, 15, PS printed next to it) or just changing the pitch setting may get you the desired results. it won't hurt anything to change the settings, it just changes the spacing. The PS setting only works on a PS printwheel, any other kind will just print the wrong letters.

Types wrong letters

It sounds like you have the 10,12,15,PS selector switch on PS with a 10, or 12 print wheel installed. Return to the left margin, move the switch to 10 and type.

Keyboard & Mouse Problem

Seems like you Ctrl-key is pressed all the time somehow.
Make sure that none of the Ctrl-keys is stuck.
If you try another keyboard, everything should work fine, so just check your keyboard. Maybe you need to replace it.
