While the pc is powered on, load the windows cd into the cd rom and restart the pc by pressing the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys, when the pc reboots you should see a black screen with white letters asking you to press any key to boot from the cd.

Carefully following the options install Windows and then to repair the operating system. NOT the repair console option.

If you are not asked to do a repair then stop as this solution wont work and you will likely need to reinstall Windows.

At this point windows should repair any damage files and reboot. Following the reboot, do not press any key, instead wait for Windows to boot normally, you can remove the cd after Windows boots.

Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Select safe mode with command prompt then type in chkdsk/f/r which will scan for and and attempt repair of bad files and bad sectors on hard drive You should have no input while chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your computer also Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue and then replace the file. Type the following command and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

My HP Pavillion dv7 3112sa won't boot and remains

Hi, at startup try pressing f8, this should give you a menu, select 'start windows with last good configuration', this should restore windows to the state before it started rebooting randomly. Failing that...try starting in 'safemode with command prompt' and then do a 'system restore'- press f8 again at start up and then follow the instructions below. this should restore your system to a previous state when the computer wasn't doing random things.

  1. Restart your computer, and then press and hold F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in safe mode with a Command prompt.
  2. Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode with a Command prompt option.
  3. If you are prompted to select an operating system, use the arrow keys to select the appropriate operating system for your computer, and then press ENTER.
  4. Log on as an administrator or with an account that has administrator credentials.
  5. At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER.
  6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to a functional state.
I hope that this helps you to sort out the problem. Toni

My toshiba L500 wont boot up when i turn it on it starts to load files then stops and tries to repair the problem but it does not

Hi,
There are so many reasons boot up; i.e if system files corrupted by virus or hard disk index tables corruption or hdd partions corruption.

So as a initial trouble shooting try to do following things to resolve problem.

Option 1:

1. Power ON your computer and Press F8 key to have Windows boot menu option

2. Select "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" and Press Enter
3. When command prompt loaded then type follwing command and press enter

chkdsk /r c:

(If this command is not working in "safe mode with command prompt" then start computer with Bootable CD and Press "R" key when first time asked. It will open recovery console and type this "chkdsk /r "command again to repair disk.)

This command will scan your hdd and repair disk errors.

Option 2 :

To repair your windows without losing your data.
Start Computer with bootable CD
Press R when it is asked to press.
It will repair windows.
Note : Please read Status Bar and screen messages /nstructions carfully (while Booting computer thru Bootable CD)

My computer can't send information to my x5650 because there supposedly a document being deleted but it's been working on deleting the file for 5 day now. Answers?

If you have a Windows OS, you can delete the items in the queue from the Run command (repeat twice to delete and then restart) or the Command Prompt. From the Start Button, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt. Type "net stop spooler" without the quotes then hit enter. When the prompt returns, type "net start spooler" enter (again without the quotes). Once that finishes, restart your computer. (If you only use the stop command, restart and login to the computer. Then go for a coffee break.)

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(this set of commands has worked from Win2K through Win7; I think it also worked on older Windows systems but don't remember since my printers were parallel port and didn't have items get stuck in the spooler then.)

Start up

try starting the computer normally, this usually happens if you computers power was cut while booting up, its just a small harmless glitch.  As for the returning back to the prompt try running it with command prompt. when you get to the command prompt, type (chkdsk) and let it run this might also fix any other problems that you are not seeing.
