I had the same problem on my Z3.
You should upgrade the firmware of your Z3, it solves the problem (after upgrade the camera will be able to use 2GB SD cards, no more than that).
Filename of the firmware version 1.03 is z3v103e.exe, look for it or contact me and i'll send it to you.

I went to this site:
and followed their instructions. Basically, it teaches you how to update the firmware so your camera will take a 2GB card. It took me 2 hours to get my 2GB card to work, but I did three things wrong:
1. Didn't follow the instructions EXACTLY (more about that)
2. Should have used Sandisk SG cards only (I don't know if other brands will work, but you can try after the update)
3. Didn't use my original 1GB card, which my camera already recognized, to do the initial formatting and updating for the 2GB
If you avoid my mistakes, you should be able to do yours in less than 30 minutes.

This camera with firmware below 1.03 has a problem with 2gb cards , i recommend 1 gb cards ( i have tried many until now it never stopt working ..so yes go back to where you bought the card (not accidentaly switched the white write protect switch ?? )
