Question about Dishwashers

Part identification help?

I was having the "dishwasher fills, makes a humming noise and then does nothing" problem that several others have had. Following the excellent instructions found here, I disassembled the mechanism to get to the chopper assy. I presume this is the problem:

So I need to get and install a new chopper assy.

However, when I was disassembling to get to this point, I found two other "bits" of a part that I can't identify. The "bottom" bit was down where the broken chopper bits were, but the "top" bit was on top of the "Protector, Foreign"(Part 9) The only thing I can guess it might be is "Check Valve, Sump" (Part 5) on the same page. But if that's the case, where does it go and where's the "loop" thing?

These are pics of the two bits of the part:

The top obviously snaps into the bottom but other than that, I have no idea. There's no part # (of course), just a "1" on the bottom, and a 2 on the top.

Thanks in advance

The pump probably has bones or food stuck in it. Take out the racks and see if you use a flashlight, whether you can spot anything in the area of the pump drain.

Dishwasher hums intermitantly and after the wash cycle is completed

Sounds like you have a bearing going out. It could be in the system pump or the rotating washing arms. I would suggest getting ahold of Kitchenaid's customer support and relay when during which cycle the noise occurs and they should be able to identify whats going wrong.

Dishwasher wont wash! just makes a humming noise

Without knowing the brand and model it makes it a little hard to anser but I can tell you thats the typical sign that there is something wrong with in some machines, the pump/motor assemble, in others the recirulating pump, but a technician should be called.

Dishwasher starts then pauses and drains.

Fixed! I had the issue where the cycle would start, the KUDS30IXBL8 would hum 4-5 times and then drain. Plastic folk pieces jammed in the disposer. These instructions took a few minutes (only 5 screws and a couple clips) to figure out how to take it apart, and it only took 60 seconds to put back together. Dishwasher fills with hot water then does nothing

Do you get any humming noise when you turn it ON?

How long its been you used the dishwasher last time...?

If you are getting an humming noise then Sounds like the water circulator pump is stuck. The motor tries to turn it (humming noise), but cannot. So a breaker trips (self reset). Not claiming this is actually the problem, but this is what the motor turns.

Loud humming noise when dishwasher is filling up with water

your model is pretty new. just so you know your warrenty is 1 year parts and labor. 2 years on parts. it should not cost that much money.

there are two components that start before the circulation pump.(wash noise you hear)

first sounds you hear will be the drain pump. usually rattling noises if something is in it but it can make a hum noise if something is jamming the drain propeller up. which is accessible with a T20 torx driver. take the filters out and the mesh filter. and unscrew the screw in the base towards the left. pull out whatever is lodged.

the other humming sound can come from the next component that activates is the watervalve. make sure you dont have a kinked water intake line. otherwise its a bad valve. i have had to change a few of those water valves out already but not for a hum noise on your model. you have a new style water valve. when brands make new parts we get problems fast sometimes..
