This is because you didnt get the right format of the movie...there are diffrent ytpes of format for example mpeg, jpeg etc... so make sure 1st which format your apparatus used before inserting movies

Where to find movies in VLC

VLC will only play back files it can recognise as video files. If the format of the movie you want to play back is not in the format that can be played back in, VLC might not even show the files up. This doesn't mean that VLC can't play the file at all. It probably means that you need the correct Codec to play the file format. Check to see what format the movie is in and then search for the correct codec to play it.

Invalid or unsupported file

Check the TV manual for which movie file format will run from the USB port on the TV.
You may need to convert your movies to a file format the TV uses.
Check out this WEB site for video file conversions.

WONT PLAY ANY MOVIE DOWNLOAD FROM FROSTWIRE

This happens due to invalid file extensions. Especially movies downloaded like this will not be compatible with the players.

Try Certain file conversion software to convert the files to readable format. But if you trying to play it in computer then you may want to install VLC player which reads anything and everything.

Why does it say invalid file format when i tried to play a movie on my mp4 player

Because it is NOT in the correct CODEC, you need to convert it to the Format of your MP4, read your manual for what to do.
www.cobyusa.com/files/manuals/MP705_MN.pdf - United States
manual above.

Hi we have a Goodmans TV and have been trying to get downloaded movies to play from a hard drive. Keeps coming up invalid file. Person at shop said to make compatible with TV but unsure how to

You must have the "File" to "Play" in the "Format" the TV requires to "See" You need to find out what "Format" your TV "Uses" and ensure you either the download is the right format, or convert the Videos into that format wanted. Also make sure all CODEC's are installed as well, if required.

Invalid file

Because Micorsofts media player has a limited amount of file types that it will play. An option is to use some other player such as realplayer. Another option is to obtain software that will convert one file type to another.. I am guessing that you have the most update  media player. If not , download in through windows update.
