Good day,
On some Amana models the evap fan motor runs thru the defrost thermostat. The purpose was to delay the fan restarting after a defrost cycle so it wouldn't blow warm air. If you can jump the defrost thermostat and the an runs, then changing the thermostat will solve your problem.
Other causes on Amana could be on older models the fan was run thru the fan/light switch. If it's a rocker type switch, it could be the problem.
Call the supply house where you bought the motor. Ask if the light switches are 2 or 4 terminal. Both the freezer and fresh food switches. If they are 4 terminal, then they could be the problem, or they are not depressing far enough when the door closes.

Lastly, I have come across a few Amana's where they actually had a broken wire to the motor. In all my cases it was the white wire. The area where they broke, was not at the motor but further back in the harness. You would need a VOM meter to trace the wiring.

Here's a picture of the defrost thermostat I mentioned. It's clipped to the top of the cooling coil, in the freezer compartment.

My BM23 turns on when I turn the thermostat up but the evap fan does not turn on. Should the evap fan run all the time or only when the thermostat turns the compressor on?

The evap fan runs continuously if the thermostat is not in the off position. If the fan is not running you need to find out if it is getting power and replace it if necessary.

Why would evap fan running slow

If u turn the fan by hand and it turn then u need a new fan, and i think u are mixing up the fans, the fan inside the refrigerator would be the evaporator fan if that was broken then your compressor would be cold, the fan inside the compressor section would be the condenser fan, if that was defective then your compressor would be hot causing the compressor to short cycle. change the fan and clean your condenser coil and your problem should be gone,

Refrigerator has a clicking sound and does not run

Replace the motherboard (part # WR55X10942) but be careful to check that the evaporator fan (inside the freezer) turns on when you power up the refrig again. A bad evaporator fan motor can take out the motherboard. If compressor starts with new board but not evap fan, unplug immeadiatelly and replace the evap fan motor to save new board.

Did you replace the timer with the correct one for your refrigerator? If so you may need to check the defrost thermostat out.

My U-line under counter refigerator ice maker evap fan failed

Depends, for the newer models, you can change the evap fan motor thru the front, but if you have the older model, then you have to remove the freezer housing, ice maker assy then the cover to change the evap fan motor.
