Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Hello. Hopefully you can help! I have a Sears Craftsman garage door opener Model HBW0777 dated (5/94) part No. 41A4315-7A and I was hoping to be able to use a Wireless Keypad with it. The instructions on the unit say for the opener (for the car) to hold the button on the door opener for the car, and while holding that push the smart button on the main unit itself and they will sync together and the light bulb will turn on letting you know it was programmed. Well i bought a "Genie Digital Wireless Keypad with Intellicode" says its universal, and the instructions state 1. program your pin 2. program it to the door by a. press the learn button on the main unit (learn code indicator led will blink) b. enter my pin and press the up/down button (learn code inidcator led stays on) c. Press up/down (learn code indicator turns off) d. press up/down and it will open close. I've tried several different ways and it hasn't worked. I am beginning to think maybe the main unit is too old? I have programmed the car remote to it so i know i can correctly program that, but I just cannot get the keypad to work. Thanks for any help you can provide in advance! Rob

I just managed to fix this issue myself. The problem was I had a Genie keypad and a sears garage door opener. Chaimberlain was the company compatible with Sears openers, not Genie. Once I got the new keypad, it worked like a charm!

I haven't ever seen a Genie keypad with Intellicode that was compatible with Craftsman. They sell another keypad that is but it uses a separate receiver.

The garage door remotes and keypad works only when i,m very close to opener, will not work at more then 6 ft away from opener. sears hbw0777

How old are the batteries in the remotes and keypad? Replace the batteries. If that helps, then you have solved the problem.

If it doesn't help, then check the antenna wire of the opener. (Make sure it is extended down from the unit.) Note this doesn't apply to all garage door openers. (We have several models - some with the external antenna and some without.)

Does your garage have metal walls and metal doors? This can shorten the range between the receiver and the remotes or keypad. An antenna extension may be available.

I don't see the HBW077 as a model number at Sears Parts Direct or Manage My Life. Please check the model and let me know if I can provide any additional assistance. (Sears Parts Direct has parts for my garage door openers. Manage My Life has manuals for Craftsman and Sears appliances.)

I hope this helps.

HBW0777 garage door opener. pulled debris from around one sensor light. Now neither sensor light is on.

You may have broken the wire going to the sensor. Some older models have wiring that unplugs at the sensor. This could be the case here and it is unplugged.

Anytime the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. If the transmitting sensor light is blinking it is bad.

Either your car or your door opener is an older model and they are not compatible. Hopefully it is the opener that is older.

Garage door opener won't open or close door

The drive gear is stripped. Remove the cover and you can see it just in front of the motor. It is white nylon and the part number is 41A2817. Available from Sears or any good door opener service company. It will come with instructions.

Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model and a LiftMaster Chamberlain Professional Garage Door

Hello,

I had the same frustrating dilemma with my Craftsman LiftMaster garage door and Keypad, Model 139.53754-01 (dated 10/06; and has the # 315 MHz).

To resolve “the dilemma”, grab your keypad, climb up on a ladder to access the garage door opener’s motor unit. On the right side of the motor unit, remove the white plastic casing by pressing buttons on each side and pulling down. This will expose the programming area, and for our purposes, the “Learn” button.

1. On the motor unit, press and release the “Learn” button. The Learn indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds.

2. Within 30 seconds, enter a four digit personal identification number (PIN) of your choice on the keypad. Then press and hold the ENTER button.

3. Release the ENTER button when the motor unit lights blink. The code has been “learned”/stored/activated.

Good Luck, and I Hope this Helps!
Gail
For possible future reference:

How to change an existing, known PIN
(Changing an existing PIN can be done with the wireless remote keypad, and does not require access of the motor unit.)

From the keypad:

1. Enter the four digits of the present PIN, then press and hold the # button. The opener light will blink twice. Release the # button.

2. Enter your new 4-digit PIN and press Enter. The motor unit lights will blink once when the PIN has been “learned”/stored/activated. Test by entering the new PIN, and pressing Enter.
