Question about Durabrand DVD-1002 DVD Player

2 Answers

Our DVD player caught fire and I thought you should know about it. The model number is DVD-1002. This unit was manufactured on May, 2006 with a number S/N A 6194951667. If we wouldn't have been home we might have had a big problem. Russ Masinelli 1233 W. 6th Staunton, Illinois 62088 1-618-635-5258

You need to contact the manufacturer of your remote not the of the dvd player.

I need a 1002 dvd code for an insignia remote.

There is a good chance that no code exists and the model number of the Insignia remote is necessary to answering your question.
Since both devices are made by Funai, you might try any Funai codes listed as well as these which come from the same manufacturer:
Symphonic, Sylvania, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, Philips and Misakai

All of these are also good names to avoid since their frequency of repair isn't that good.

Contact your local Wal Mart store. If this unit was manufactured in 2007, it could be eligible for a return since the manufacturer went out of business in November of 2007.

Cheap and wal-mart does not want to deal with problem....

I agree.

One thing you can do is report it to ripoffreport.com and take some pictures of it. The media gets involved on that site from time to time. I know I was talking to them about a product line a few months ago and spoke with a consumer reported in Ohio. If you Google it by make and model number, you might be able to find out who the manufacturer is and see what the complaint area is like.

I see 9 blogs on ripoffreport.com so far.

Durabrand DVD Model 1002

This product isn't being supported anymore by Walmart because the manufacturer Lennox Electronics went out business in December of 2007.

Here is a report on it:

If it is only 3 months old your best solution would be to send it to the manufacturer under the warranty.

You should be getting in touch with the conumer protection, or any government agency in your location that deals with consumer product safety.

This is another reason why for myself I always buy major brand names. At least if there is a problem, there will be easy support.

Wal-Mart recalls 1.5 million Durabrand DVD playershttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090820/ap_on_go_ot/us_recall_dvd_players

WASHINGTON – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is voluntarily recalling about 1.5 million Durabrand DVD players after the company said it received five reports of the products overheating, leading to fires and property damage.
No injuries have been reported, the company said.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday announced the recall of the Durabrand DVD players, which were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2006 through July 2009.
The agency said it didn't immediately have the details of the property damage amounts.
The DVD players, made in China and imported by Wal-Mart, can overheat, which poses as a fire and burn hazard to consumers. Wal-Mart said it has received 12 reports of the DVD players overheating, including the five reports that resulted in fires.
The recall involves a single DVD player with a remote control. The silver-colored electronic device has a U-shaped opening at the top to insert the DVD.
The safety commission said consumers should stop using the DVD player and return it to Wal-Mart for a refund. Details: by phone at 800-925-6278; by Web at http://www.walmartstores.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.
