Right click "My Computer" choose "Manage" and expand the tree to the left. Here you'll find "Disk Mangement" - in the lower, middle panel you'll find all storage devices (harddrive, DVD, memory sticks etc) attached to your computer. When right clicking these devices you should be able to "Change drive-letter".

Dvd not working on my E-SYSTEM sorrento 1

A couple troubleshooting steps.
Power the laptop off and remove the battery. There will either be a single screw on the back of the laptop or a spring button next to the DVD tray. Push the button to pop out the DVD player or remove screw, stick a paper clip in the tiny hole next to the DVD eject button and pull the DVD drive out and then firmly push the drive back in to verify it isn't seated all the way. Now put the battery back in and power on the laptop. Enter BIOS and check through the menus and ensure the DVD drive is not disabled. If you have followed these steps. Refer to the next section.

If you answer yes to any of the following you will need to replace the drive.
  • When you press the button, the drive does not light up or open
  • When you put a disc in the drive it doesn't detect the disc.
  • The DVD drive doesn't show up in device manager or under "Computer/My Computer"

If in device manager you see a yellow ! or ? on the DVD drive you will need to restore the computer because the driver corrupted and typically you can't repair them.

Dell studio 1555 doesn't read DVD or CD , when I insert CD / DVD it looks like it is reading the media but when I click on Drive icon, it ejects the media.

First reinstall the DVD driver to see if the DVD drive works.
If not then -
Try removing the DVD drive and inserting it back to make sure it properly connected then boot up the laptop and go into the BIOS and see it the DVD drive is detected, if the DVD drive is not detected then the DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

DVD Rom door will not open

Take a paperclip and unbend it into a straight line. There should be a small pin hole on the face on the DVD ROM drive. Poke the paper clip into this hole and it is the release button to open the drive. Works great when you have powered off your computer and want to get the CD/DVD out without powering back on!

Dvd/cd drive device properties state drive is

Apart from DVD, dose it recognize other Cd's? If is does then I think the lens for your drive is weak.

And if it is not the lens, then maybe you should uninstall the drive, restart your system and reinstall the drivers for drive.

You could also detach the drive from your system, while the system is shut down, then put on the system back without the drive, allow it to boot, shut down, put back the drive and see if the drive will play DVD this time.

Best wishes

My dvd rom does not show up in" my computer". i cannot play any dvd or cd. my driver agent says that HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40N ATA DEVICE is disconnected.

Best thing to try, take out the dvd drive completely from the laptop. Then go ahead and reseat the drive back into its slot and put the screw back into place. Do all of this while the laptop is turned off.

Now go ahead and turn the laptop back on and go into the bios. Once in there it should show you the dvd drive, if it does show it to you then reboot into windows and then the drive should show up into my computer and you should be able to play dvd and cd's again.

If your drive doesn't show up in the BIOS then reset defaults and then reboot the laptop back into windows. If it still doesn't show up in there then you have a bad dvd drive.

ACER ASPIRE 4315 DVD drive not recognised

See if your DVD drive is recognized when you boot. To get in the Bios, when logo appears during booting, hit "delete" or "F2" or whatever you are prompted.

Also, see that it is reconized without any marks in the Device Manager, once you boot OS.

Can I playback my movies on a DVD-ROM drive?

No, DVD-RAM disc recorded on the DVD Camcorder will not play back on every drive. Some of the new DVD-ROM drives designed to be compliant with the new DVD-RAM book2 standards will playback discs recorded on the DVD Camcorder. Many previous DVD-ROM drives on the market that came out before the DVD-RAM standard was released will not play back discs recorded on the DVD Camcorder. HITACHI manufactures DVD-ROM drives for some PC manufactures as OEM products. HITACHI model GD-7500 DVD-ROM has DVD-RAM read/write compatibility.
