The only way to reset the system is to unplug it for 15 minutes, then plug it back in. But if it is saying insufficient fresh air, then I would check your return air duct and make sure that there is not a kink in the link or a block in the line. If you are still having the issue after what I told you, then a relay has gone bad and the return air sensor will need to be replaced

Propane water heater high limit switch keeps kicking out

1) What brand and model water heater?
Copy following link for troubleshoot by type of gas control valve.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#intellivent

2) Clean air intake screen using compressed air or feather duster.
With AO Smith, craftmaster, state, reliance, american, kenmore, whirlpool, the air intake is located on bottom of heater. Rheem, richmond, ruud, GE, Bradford white, the air intake screen is located under combustion parts.
Water heaters today require plenty of fresh air. If air intake gets clogged with dust, then combustion byproduct moves up pipe too slowly for amount of fuel being burned, and this overheats combustion chamber.

My smart water pilot is on but it is not heating the water tank

GE is Rheem.
Models change frequently.
Copy following link for troubleshoot resources by type of gas control valve.

Newer water heaters require frequent air intake cleaning.
To do this with Rheem requires removal of combustion parts, and then air compressor to blow out screen.
It is probably time to have a plumber give water heater a catch-up on recommended maintained, such as checking gas pressure, bleeding gas line, checking vent draft, clean combustion parts, clean air intake, check if gas control is working correctly.

Reliant 501 Natural Gas won't stay lit

Reliance water heater?
Thermocouple is good if the pilot stays lit continuously.

501 is older model. Unknown if this unit has FVIR protection and sealed combustion chamber or open air intake on front of unit.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Reliance-2006-Service-Handbook.pdf

With FVIR protection:
Get more fresh air to the unit.
Clean the flame arrestor screen.
Test and replace the thermocouple:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-thermocouple.html
Inspect and clean burner and combustion parts
Test gas pressure, bleed air out of gas line.
Replace gas control valve.
Test draft air by lighting match and see if smoke is pulled into the vent pipe at draft hood on top of tank.

Kenmore Water heater, Model # 153.339462, Pilot lights, burner burns for approx. 10 - 15 minutes then both go out. after which it is more difficult to light the pilot. I need ideas please

Clean combustion parts, clean air intake, get more air to water heater and see if problem continues.
Look at color of burner flame and pilot flame: if flame has yellow-and-orange instead of clear blue flame, then combustion parts need cleaning.

Pilot and burner problems can be caused by bad thermocouple, thermocouple not sitting in flame, weak pilot flame due to dirty tube or low gas pressure, air in gas line, no draft up vent, backdraft coming down vent, dirty combustion parts, clogged air intake, insufficient air, insufficient air quality, hot attic, bad gas control valve, etc.

Carrier furnace burner will not on with front panel close.

Sounds like a combustion air issue and by removing the front panel it lights and runs. Is there a PVC pipe connected to the cabinet that may have a blockage in it? There may be 2 pipes, one for exhaust and one for combustion air. Would not hurt to check both.

My goodman gaspack has had two incidents of cracked heat exchangerS within 18 months apart. Could something be cAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN?

Things to watch for when your heat exchanger is cracking....
1.Always kee the filter clean
2.Make sure the return air vents are clean and clear of obstructions
3.Your furnace could be Oversized for your house thereby running too hot.
4.The furnace can be "Overfired" basically burniing more gas and running hotter than it's supposed to be
5.It's always best to have your furnace taking fresh air for combustion from outside...basically you should have 2 pipes on your furnace ..one for Air Intake and the other for Exhaust
6.Sometimes some furnaces have a Bad Design and are prone to failure...Some Goodman have "Rings" basically large rivets that pop...this was a bad design however all the suggestions above should help but may not eliminate your problem

Coleman direct vent forced air furnace

I am a furnace technician and to solve the problem. You will find on the opposite side of the ignitor their is a flame rod with a wire connected to it.Remove it and clean it with sandpaper and re install it and it should fix the problem. If this is dirty it won't sense ignition and the board thinks that is it introducing raw gas into furnace and it isn't igniting and shuts off as a safety precaution. If you see a blueish tinge on the flame rod you should probably replace it.
