What do you mean by not working? Is it listed as a device in My Computer? Or are you saying it won't play a particular CD or DvD that you are trying to play?

Computers have a hard times sometimes trying to play a cd or dvd that someone made and gave to you. Try a store bought music cd or movie dvd and see if it plays.

Click Start/My Computer and see if your dvd drive is listed as a device along with your hard drive. If not turn the laptop off, remove the power cord, remove the battery then remove the one screw (it will probably have the icon of a circular disc on it) that holds the dvd drive on the bottom of the laptop and pull the dvd drive out of the bay. After 30 seconds put it all back together and then reboot. Now see if the drive is listed as a device in My Computer. If not, you will need to Remove Upper and Lower Filters.

Dv6704nr wont read dvd


Are you trying to play a dvd that someone made and gave to you? If so sometimes computers have a problem reading those. Try a store purchased DvD movie.

Make sure your drive is a DvD drive or reader. Click Start/My Computer and see if your drive is listed along with the hard drive. If so it should say DvD not just CD. You can also look on the drive's door where you put the dvd in to play to see if you see DvD on it. If the drive is not listed at all in My Computer that's your problem.

If your dvd drive is not listed in My Computer then remove the power cord, remove the battery, remove the one screw on the bottom of the laptop that holds the dvd drive then remove the dvd drive from the slot. After about 20 seconds, put the drive back in and reboot. Check to see if it is listed now in My Computer, if not you will need to Remove Upper and Lower Filters.

Will it recognize store purchased cd's or dvd's? Most computers will have problems with cd's or dvd's that someone made on their computer and gave to you.

Check to see if your CD/DvD drive is listed in My Computer. Click Start/My Computer and see if the drive is listed along with the hard drives. if not, remove the power cord, remove the battery, turn the laptop over and remove the screw that hold the dvd drive in place. Pull the dvd drive out then put it back it. Reboot and look in My Computer to see if it is listed now as a device.

If it still is not listed as a device in My Computer you will need to remove Upper and Lower Filters.

Windows 7

I have followed all directions to turn off parental controls on my ps2 but it will not let me. what should i do?


Follow these steps:
  1. Turn on the PlayStation 2 and remove any disk that may already be in the device. Then insert a DVD, preferably one that will prompt you for the parental control code. Insert the code and allow the DVD to begin playing.
  2. Press the "Select" button once the movie has started. This will bring up a menu. Find the "Settings" icon, and press "X" to enter the "Settings Menu." Scroll down and select the "Parental Controls Menu" and press "X."
  3. Reset the "DVD Parental Control Level" to "Off," which will allow any DVD to play without prompting the user for the passcode. You may also choose to set it to level 8, which is the least stringent level.
  4. Do not exit the menu after inputting the new settings. Instead, eject the DVD and remove it. This should cause the PlayStation to reset with the new settings enabled. If it does not automatically reset, then manually reset it by either flipping the switch in the back, or by holding the reset button in the front down. Leave the device off for a few seconds.
  5. Turn the PlayStation back on and input a DVD that previously required the passcode. The PlayStation should now play the DVD without prompting you for the passcode. If it does, then you're finished. If it still prompts you for the passcode, then start again at step one and try it again.

i think deleting the upper filters and lowers filters will resolve your problem.

Cleaning my files, accidentally lost drivers for my Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-117R, also Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104....driver 5.1.2535.0 System restore could not take me back far enough, and cannot load Recovery...

Windows Vista
Click Start, and then click All Programs.
Click Accessories, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

If the problem occurs again when you install or uninstall those programs, contact the manufacturer of the program to see if an update is available that solves the problem. Remove and reinstall drivers
If the drive is not listed, remove and reinstall the existing drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
Windows 7
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click System and Security, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
In Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the CD and DVD devices, and then click Uninstall.
When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.
Restart the computer.
After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed
Windows Vista
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.

Panasonic dmrez27 dvd recorder stuck on dvd2 setting


If you point the remote towards sensor, simultaneously hold down the number (1, 2, etc) you want AND the enter button for 5 or more seconds it should switch to the number pressed. Remember if you have a second one, make sure it's off or put towel over its remote sensor. Sue

Not recognizing DVD player


i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!


get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems
