Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop
How do i replace the sound card on dell dimension 3000 and where is it located
The Dell Dimension 3000 comes with Integrated sound.
This is Dell Support, and the Technical Specifications page for the Dimension 3000,
Scroll down to the subheading - Audio
"AC'97, Sound Blaster Emulation, ADI 1980 audio controller with 2.1 implementation"
It isn't a sound adapter card installed into an expansion slot.
It is a chipset soldered to the motherboard.
Should you wish to install a sound card, (Sound adapter card), it will go into one of the PCI expansion slots. (White in color)
Technical Overview>System Board Components,
The System Board is also referred to as the Motherboard, or Mainboard.
Looking at the illustration of the motherboard, the PCI slots are shown to the right.
Three long white slots that are vertically arranged.
PCI card slots (3) (PCI1, PCI2, PCI3)
This is a better look at a PCI slot,
The two long White slots towards the top of the motherboard, are PCI expansion slots.
Doesn't matter which PCI slot you use, as long as it's open, and available. (No expansion card installed in it)
This is one example of a sound adapter card,
Would like to advise;
1) Work on a table when working on a computer.
A bed, couch, or directly on a carpet floor are High areas of Static electricity.
2) Your body carries Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, TOUCH the metal frame.
Should you get up in the middle of working on your computer, and leave; upon your return be sure to Touch the metal frame again.
Follow the instructions given with the Sound card.
The sound card comes with a CD disk which should be used.
Should you have any questions concerning this, just post in a Comment.

The sound card is on the mother board, but you can buy a PCI sound card and install it in one of the empty whit slots on the mother board.
I am not sure but you may need to dissable the onboard sound before you install the add in replacement sound card.
You can ask dell support if you need to do this, firstname.lastname@example.org
Good luck. I hope this helps. Have a good day.
