Question about HP LaserJet 1012 Printer

All the lights are flashing. I have put in a new cartridge, unplugged and turned off the machine, I cleaned it with the air duster. It will not work

Try the following tricks:
Disconnect any USB cables attached to the printer and remove any memory cards from drive bay. Restart the computer. Unlock the ink cartridge locking clips. Remove all ink cartridges. Lock down the ink cartridge locking clips. Close the main printer door Turn the printer off with the Power button and wait for the printer to shut down. Unplug the printer AC adapter from the printer and the wall outlet or surge protector. Wait approximately fifteen to forty-five seconds to allow all current to dissipate from printer. Re-plug only the AC adapter into the wall outlet then into the printer, but do not plug in the USB cable. Wait for the appropriate missing ink cartridge error to verify that printer can recognize this error. Re-insert one ink cartridge only, to minimize confusion in case one of the cartridges is defective, and print an internal test page. If no errors are found, insert the other ink cartridge(s) and ensure that they are functioning by performing internal test pages or calibration pages. If an error occurs due to a defective cartridge, perform the appropriate steps for Resolving Ink Cartridge Rejections. After returning to the main Windows screen, reconnect the USB cable to the computer then to the printer. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

I quit typing because I cannot pay for advice. I was originally wanting clarification from advice I saw on this site This is what the beginning advice said: PARTIAL RESET:- Unplug the printer power cable...

If the machine works ok with the old cartridge back in the then new cartridge is faulty. It happens many times that new cartridges fail straight away. This is a particular problem with recycled cartridges and hp inkjects. Use a new genuine HP cartridge.

I have put in a new drum and new cartridge and the screen reads: set cartridge. I have everything in the machine just as it was previously. What is it asking me to do?

It may sound silly, but are all the tapes removed from the drum and cartridge? The is a sensor that 'sees' the cartridge. If the sensor is blocked then it doesn't read the cartridge. When was the last time it had a cleaning? and lastly,was it asking you to change the drum and cartridge, or was there another reason. Canned air care blown inside the machine has worked wonders. Be sure that machine is unplugged and outside, where toner won't get everywhere. They are very dirty machines.

I have a black line that prints under the print out when I run the confirmation for cleaning the heads

Okay - there possibly ink in the machine, try cleaning it yourself. You will have to clean up all the rollers and internal parts.

Turn off your printer. Make sure all parts have stopped moving and the power indicator light is off. you could unplug it.

Wipe down the outside of your printer. Using a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe down all the outer surfaces of your printer. Remove trays to reach all areas.

Clean the inside. Open the panel used to access the ink cartridges. Use a dry cloth or air-duster to remove dust, dirt and scraps of paper. Wipe up spots of ink as well. Be careful and avoid making physical contact with circuits and other electronics.

Also open all other panels and places that open and clean them.

See if there is ink leaking or droping from anywhere

Standby light is flashing

I had the same problem with my machine and managed to get it working again in a few easy steps. This machine is great but it can be VERY tempermental so here are a few tips:
1.The barcode reader MUST be clean or it will not read what the disc is (It is the little glass screen where you place the disk.) If it is not clean the lights will all flash.
2. The little floaty thing in the water container has to be floating in order to keep the machine running- if it won't float, shake it well to dislodge the air pocket that might be jambing it.
3. If the red stanby light won't go away, it is because the disc you are using is either damaged or leaking and it WON'T go away until you replace the disc...(you might have to do it more then once) if that doesn't work- try hitting the reset button on the back of the machine (the little black switch that has a (- and o) as well as unplugging and plugging the machine back in. Lastly, what worked for me was inserting a new disk and only partially clicking in the disk so the 'heating' light came on- leave it like that for about 10 seconds and then very slowly close the disc completely. Hope this helped!

There could be a tiny piece of paper blocking the paper path or sensor. See if you can find any.

take the cartridges out and put them back in see if that helps
