Question about Northstar 6100i GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I have a new Northstar 6100I which has been working well for the last few weeks. Yesterday none of the buttons would work except for power on and off. I tried restarting and unplugging power to the unit several times but it did not correct the porblem.

Try the following reset:

  • Remove memory card.
  • With the unit off, press and hold the "5" key.
  • Power the unit, while continuing to hold the 5 key.
  • Release the power key, but continue to hold the 5 key.
  • The Northstar splash screen will come on Continue to hold the 5 key for approx. 45 seconds until a gray screen appears with 9 options then release the 5 key.
  • Press the 1 key, then ENT.
  • The unit will reset and will need to be reconfigured

Ensure that you have disconnected the power connector for at least five minutes. Remove any card present in the slot before disconnecting.

Check all connectors and ensure that connectors are protected with the plastic caps provided.

If unit is minimally operational, download an update, save it on a memory card, and try updating the unit.

If that does not fix the problem, then the unit is faulty. In that case call Northstar or the dealer that sold the Northstar for replacement. The unit is under warranty and there is nothing that the user can do.

Here a user manual.

    I will try the reset

When you say remove ther memory card do you mean the chart card? I did not notice a memory card in the unit and cannot find any reference to it in the manual.

Is this a common problem with the 6100i's?

    Thank You

I was referring to the chart card. There is no SD card on this model. The chart card can also be used for the update.

Try first a reset with chart card inside, then perform procedure with no card. If chart card is defective the unit may freeze.

This unit is under warranty, better limiting operations to the minimum. Eventually contact Northstar before performing any maintainance that goes beyond the reset. Reset procedure will not affect your warranty status.

My Northstar 6100i display had water incursion. After disassembling and drying/cleaning out the unit, it worked fine for about a day. Then it started to flicker and lose lines, then went gray.

When electronics have taken water on, it must be dis-assembled within the hour and washed using rubbing alcohol to have a chance in saving the device. Once corrosion sets in and ic's are compromised it is already to late. The only option from your description is replace the unit for new one, because you can spend time and money to find it breaks down again days from now or even weeks.

My son bought an AOC LCD TV (model L24H898) last month and connected his laptop and XBOX to it. Yesterday we lost internet connection and the screen on the TV went blank. Now none of the button on the TV...

According to the manufacturer, to reset the entire unit do the following:
1. Press and hold "Menu" and "Channel +" on the TV. 2. Using other hand, press the power button. 3. A small screen should appear in the top left part of the screen. 4. Using the remote, select "Memory Recall" and select. 5. Power off and re-boot the computer 6. Run channel auto-scan to regain the picture.

Epson 6100i projector password needed

The default code for Epson projectors is 1 7 9 3 while holding down the number button on the remote control, if this doesn't work then the code has been changed. This code will need to be entered whenever the projector is disconnected from the power supply so if you do change it, make sure you keep a note of what the new code is.

Faceplate not responding / acting very weirdly

Sounds like a bad connection with the faceplate and the multi connector that the faceplate mates with when closed. check for dirt and bent pins on both connectors. Luck
