You seem like you have the problem with the focus button
with action shots,to get a good shot
you must hold down half of the capture button ( the button u press to take a foto)
if successful, you will see a little green dot on the top of the screen.
Your camera is now on focus.
all u have to do is press the button down a little harder and your shot wil be taken straight away.
good luck.

How do i take action shots?

The DSC-HX300 has 16 shooting modes, Anti-motion Blur, Back Light
Beach,,Fireworks, Food, Handheld Twilight, High Sensitivity, Landscape, Night Portrait, Night Scene, Pet Portrait, Smooth Skin, Snow, Soft Focus, Sports.
>Use the Sports mode for action. Use the 'burst' option and you'll get several images and be able to select the best moment.
Wider angles (rather than extreme telephoto) allows for less blur if the camera is handheld (even teh improved Steady shot feature can only do just so much.) You may have better results optimizing for either ISO or shutter speed, but that will be lighting and speed-of-action dependant. You'll probably need to experiment a bit.

How do i take action photos

To get an action photo without every thing coming out blurred.

1) Set your ISO setting to maximum (Lets in more light)
2) Steady yourself against a building or tree of even use a monopod or tripod.

I'd also recommend borrowing a photo skills book from your local library.

My Fuji 5000 is not performing like it used to on action shots - even when on auto mode. The blurriness is terrible and all my shots have the blurred look unless the subjects stand still.

Have you gone to the manual? It might be the film speed setting is too low which is adjusted through the menu button. If my memory is correct it would be in the setup mode. If you haven't already checked this, the higher the speed the better the action shots.

Olympus D 555 Blurred action shots

Indoor actions in low-to-moderate light are very difficult. This is why professional photographers pay thousands for DSLRs with high quality high-ISO settings, and thousands more for big and heavy lenses that can shoot with a large aperture (small f-stop number) to get the most light into the lens and onto the sensor.

Your Olympus D-555 only goes to ISO 400, which is not suitable for indoor action shots, and the lens is f/3 to f/5 which is not a fast lens. What you are trying to do is simply not possible with this camera. You need good quality at ISO 1600 (or higher) and f/2.8 or faster for the lens. This will give you 8 to 16 times as much light gathering capability in low light situations, letting you use a much faster shutter to capture action shots in low light.

I need advice on how to take Ice-hockey action pics...

Pictures get blurred because of several reasons:

Low shutter speed - occurs in low lightning conditions.
Auto focus not focused - occurs when pressing the shutter button all the way without waiting for the auto focus ready signal (green box)

To speed up the shutter do the following:
In Camera menu-Quality- Set ISO 100 for outdoor, ISO 400 indoor.

To avert focus problems, set camera menu-Rec- Focus-Infinity, Rec-Quick shutter-On

Hope that helps.

Having problems with the flash\ blurred and grainy images

You should not use the flash for these shots (unless you connect a powerful external flash), it won't help you at this distance. You should use the shutter priority mode and experiment with shutter speed (no flash) to get the best result - for sports action it should probably be faster than 1/100 sec. If the light is too low you may use higher ISO setting - 200 or 400 (though higher ISO will result in grainier images, it may be your only option for blur-free photos).

All action shots with S5000 are a complete blur...

I have the S5000 and have found that the shutter lag does present some problem with action shots. You do have to focus on the subject, & then hit the shutter just as it comes into the frame. As to the blur, have you tried shutter priority? I recently took a picture of my cousin's daughter jumping over a dog, & got the action perfectly. (I will be posting it in my gallery shortly - I don't remember offhand what the shutter speed was). Set the shutter speed to at least 1/500, or even faster depending on the subject.
