Preformat : By Fix-shad0w

#1
Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
#2
Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
#3
Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
#4
In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
#5
Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
#6
Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Dxg503 in camera mode shows memory full. view mode shows no file. When i try to download to computer it either does not show up or indicates that it is not accessible. using internal memory only

Hello,

is there anything important in the internal memory? not many pictures can fit there so I suppose probably no?

Format the memory.

Use setup mode to set the camera configurations to suit your personal preferences. Turn the mode dial to SET Mode. And select "Format"

Use the format option to format the camera memory or memory card.

Note: When you format the memory, all data will be deleted.

Now take a few pictures and see if they show up in the view mode or if you are able to get them to the computer. Let me know how that turns out.

Is San Disk memory card compatible with Digimax 401 ? I inserted one and got the message card errior.

Hi,
SD Memory Card is compatible with your Digimax 401 camera. You just need to format the card.
Formatting a memory card
** This is used for formatting the memory card. If you run [FORMAT] on the memory card, all
images, including the protected images, will be deleted. Be sure to download important
images to your PC before formatting the memory card.
** If the memory card is not inserted, the internal memory will be formatted.
** Be sure to format the memory card if you are using a newly purchased or non-initialized
memory card, if it contains data that the camera cannot recognize, or if it contains images
captured with a different camera.

Formatting a Memory Card
1. In any mode other than Voice Recording mode, press the MENU button.
2. Press the LEFT/ RIGHT button and select the [SETUP] menu tab.
3. Select the [FORMAT] menu by pressing the UP/ DOWN button and press the RIGHT button.
4. Select a desired sub menu by pressing the UP/ DOWN button and press the OK button.
- If [No] is selected : The memory card will not be formatted.
- If [Yes] is selected : A [PLEASE WAIT!] message appears and the memory card will be formatted. If you ran FORMAT in Play mode, a [NO IMAGE!] message will appear.

We insert a memory chip into our Kodak EasyShare C190 camera. The read-out informs us that the memory card requires formatting. We click on "OK." The camera goes into a "formatting" mode, then informs us...

Your camera is only supporting SD/MMC Cards (up to 2 GB) and KODAK SDHC Cards (up to 8 GB).
The card that you currently have might be faulty. Please try another card.
You might also need to switch the camera over to saving pictures directly onto the SD card.1: Menu, Cam settings, Chose AUTO or SD card option Press OK
Note: If the SD card isn't in the camera or is unreadable the camera will automatically go back to saving you taken pictures on the internal memory.

Memory card eraser

You will need to format your card to erase everything at once. Here is a link to the on-line user manual for your camera. If you have lost it you should download it and save it to your desktop as Minolta is no longer in the camera business and support is now through Sony. Turn the mode dial on the top of the camera to setup. The menu will appear. You should see "format" there choose that to restore your card to a blank state. Here's that link I told you about...

I do not known if it is my memory card or what.

remove the memory card from the camera, then check a notch or type of slide switch at its sides. adjust the swicth to make sure the memory card is not write protected. Insert it back to the camera and test it again

Stylus 600. When I turn camera on a blue screen comes up with a message [xD] Write Protect. What does this mean and how do I make it go away?

In order to remove the message of write protect you will need to format the xD memory card. The card has somehow become corrupted. To format the memory card - press Ok - right arrow to Mode Menu - down arrow to Card tab - right arrow to Card Setup - right arrow to Format - Up arrow to Yes and then press Ok. This will permanently delete all images from the memory card and you will be able to start taking images again.

Can no longer find pictures on media card after using Continuous mode

Here is what I would do...

I am assuming that you are using an external memory card reader that plugs into USB and that you are only seeing a portion of what the card contains.

Plug the camera directly into your USB port using the USB cable that came with your camera. (Or one like it. Whatever. :P) See if Windows is able to see the images that way instead of using your memory card reader.

If you are able to see the images that way, back the images up onto your computer from the camera.

Use the camera itself to format the card. Make sure to do a "LOW LEVEL FORMAT" when you do.

Take the following into account:
  • You may have formatted the card in Windows. Sometimes this may cause read/write errors in the file system on the memory card when being used in the camera.
  • Use a HIGH-SPEED memory card when using continuous shooting mode as the memory card you're currently using may not be able to keep up with the average write speed that it requires. This camera is very capable of writing at high speeds. The memory card may not be.
Please let me know what comes of this solution as I myself am curious.

Unable to use card

The memory card needs to be formatted by the camera. The card can be formatted in section 1 of the playback menu. Formatting will erase all data from the card.
