Go to your start menu then type in adobe reader. I had the same issue and I had to reinstall Adobe then click yes to change files. It was not big deal, because inside Adobe Reader you can change any files changed right back.

Pdf file is not openinig in my sony vaio

Hi,
If you don't have Adobe Reader, then download it from the Adobe website ( www.adobe.com ).
If you have Adobe Reader, and the file does not open because Windows does not know with what program you can open the file, do this:
a) Right click on the file you need to open.
b) Click on Properties and then click Change...
When you've changed the opening program for the file, it should work.
If it still does not work, then try reinstalling Adobe Reader.
If the problem will still be there, try scanning your computer for viruses with Microsoft Security Essentials.

There's a discussion of this problem on Adobe's forum at
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/771034.
Maybe some of the ideas there will help.

Have you tried Foxit Reader? It's for .pdf files and I've had very good luck with it. Download it for free:

I have another software program that allows me to read in PDF files. This worked great in Adobe 9 but once I upgraded to Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 I can no longer see the PDF files when browsing the directory...

Im a little confused by your wording but I think you mean that Adobe Reader 10 doesn't recognize the file as a PDF or compatible file format, try right clicking on the literal file and open with Adobe Reader, or left click on the name once, and then change the ending of the file to .pdf, hope this helps.

I received a PDF attachment but can't open it because this is what comes up : This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association...

It simply means there's no PDF reader installed on your computer. Or if it's already installed, then there must be some default pdf reader recently set incorrectly to another application/program. If you are sure that there's a pdf reader, like adobe reader, foxit reader, etc..etc.. installed on your computer, follow the steps below:
Right click the pdf file (i guess you've downloaded the pdf file), click "properties", there you'll see a "change" or "Browse" button on the general tab, click change or browse and locate the program to open the pdf file, select it and click "Ok" then "Apply", close the dialog box and double-click the pdf file, it'll open without any problem. You can also directly open the file on your internet browser like Internet Explorer, Google chrome or Firefox etc..etc.. Simply right-click the pdf file and select "Open with" and browse the internet browser and click it.

If in case you need a pdf reader to open the file, click here to download adobe reader. Open the link, click "Download" proceed with the onscreen instructions and install the program, if you are asked to confirm whether this problem to be made the default pdf reader, confirm it and and finish the installation by clicking finish. Now open the pdf file, there'll be no more issues.

If you need further help, let me know, it would be much appreciated if you can let me know how you open the file.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have problem opening adobe pdf files. I have adobe 9 and 9.3 but does not open adobe files. It asks for adobe 4 and 7 or 8. I tried to download adobe 4,7 or 8. It says I have that version on my computer....

try the steps below:
1. Right-Click on the PDF file.
2. Select Properties
3. On the General tab,
3.1. Check the Opens with: if its set to Adobe Reader
If not, click the Change button and select Adobe Reader

If the same thing happens, Uninstall all Adobe Reader installed on your computer. It is an indication that the installation is corrupted that's why it is not being detected.

I suggest that you can try to use Foxit PDF Reader instead which for me I find very convenient in opening PDF files.

Please let me know if the following has been helpful.

Cant open pdf

Make sure only adobe 9 is the only version of adobe reader you have installed on that computer. Then go to where your PDF file is and right click on it with the mouse and go into properties.

In the general tab where it says type of file it will show you what program is opening up the PDF file. Click on the change button and where it says recommended programs see if Adobe reader is there, if its not then down below where it says other programs click on the down arrow and see if adobe reader shows up there. If it shows up in either section then choose it, then click on apply, and then click on okay.

Now if for some reason adobe reader doesn't show up in either section, then you'll need to browse for it. It normally installs itself in the program files folder, then double-click on it and go into the adobe folder, Adobe 9.0 and then the reader folder. The name of the reader program looks something like acrord32 and it will say application to the right of it. At that point choose it and apply the changes so it opens up with Adobe reader.

This should cover everything, if your still having problems, let me know and I'll help you out further.

Help me please can not download the Adobe reader 9 keeps disappearing after I click on install

What browser are you using? In Firefox when I clicked on the Adobe reader icon at adobe.com a plugin box opened and the install was very fast. There was also a link that downloaded the install file. Download an earlier version of adobe from oldapps.com and let the program update sequentially until you get upto version 9.
