5d is: It denotes suds lock (overdose of detergent dectected during the wash cycle).

Chances are you just put too much detergent in, or maybe the wrong detergent - make sure you're using the HE detergent.

These codes and more details are printed on the service technician diagnostic manual that is affixed to the inside of the washer's front panel.

Unplug your washer, and unscrew the three 1/4" socket screws at the bottom of the washer. The manual should be taped to the back of the panel, and the code and some recommended procedures will be right inside.

It may have F21 code together meaning long drain in the system. Open the small top toe part then will see the pump. Open the filter and clean the pump.

5d error code on duet washer. What do I do?
Hello, welcome to fixya.

Based on your post I understand you have a "SD" error problem (looks like a 5D in the digital display) with a Whirlpool Duet washer, the error means an excessive drain time or excessive suds was detected as you may or may not already know.

Do you know what problem 5d or Sd means

SUDS LOCK (Overdose of Detergent detected during the Wash Cycle)

The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

F21 is flashing
This means the water is not draining out like it should. I solved this problem initially on my washer (my drain pipe was clogged), but now (about 4 months later), I have a flashing F21 and 5d, because of a clog some- where. I can drain and rinse (after this cycle, the door will unlock), and the tub spins, but I can't complete a cycle. Lots of debris has come out with rinse water, but I still seem to have a clog somewhere. I can complete a wash load by manually switching the settings.

I keep getting codes like f21 and 5d - I lost my book and do not know what this means - can you help me?
you need to take the kick panel off and untwist the pump filter it is clogged with debrie. this will solve your problem. be prepared for alot of water to come out though. i would say you have a baby and there is a baby sock in there. just a guess though :)

Our wash machine will not spin after draining the water.
if this is really the old 9150 version then f21 is a ccu communication error with user interface. likely ccu is bad. 5d is not a error code.
bearings will make noise when out. unplug wait 1 min the reconnect power. If this doesnt work open top cover and check connections on ccu in rear. (unplug and replug). then buy new control. if your machine is newer duet (wfwxxxx) then f21 is different. (pressure sw) tech sheet on bottom front cover.

My whirlpool duet washer indicates "5d"...
unplug.
open the bottom panel,3 screws on bottom
check the drain plug ,
remove the plug , mop up water ,
look inside for clogs ,
look above the ball,
look inside the propellers, spin the pumps propeller by hand.
reassemble.
close panel.
finally .
feel around the inside of the front rubber gasket for items.
