Question about Dell XPS 420 PC Desktop
That does not depend so much on the computer but more on the monitor you have attached.
Often monitors have a separate USB connection to the computer to enable external USB ports. If your monitor has such a connector, I would definitely use it - look also in the manual for the monitor itself.
The cable usually used by Dell looks like this:
The VGA or DVI cable send only signals FROM the computer TO the monitor, so you will need another connection, if you want to use you webcam.
