That does not depend so much on the computer but more on the monitor you have attached.
Often monitors have a separate USB connection to the computer to enable external USB ports. If your monitor has such a connector, I would definitely use it - look also in the manual for the monitor itself.
The cable usually used by Dell looks like this:

The VGA or DVI cable send only signals FROM the computer TO the monitor, so you will need another connection, if you want to use you webcam.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Emachines el1200 will not start up. When power button is turned on...it will blink shortly after ( no beeps ). It will not turn on monitor

Hello,
As mentioned that when you turn on the system the lights on the system turns on and the monitor goes off, unplug the VGA cable from the system tower and turn on the monitor and check if you get signals on the screen if it shows you some color bar or a massage, that means your monitor is good. IF not then there is problem with the monitor . get it repaired or replace it. If that is not the case you would need to unplug all the external devices connected to the tower and try, IF not then you need to open the tower and check for the green light on the motherboard if it comes on or you can try reseting the memory card or if you have an video card, then you will have to remove the card and try the build in one .

What cable do i need to connect my cam from my monitor to the tower

I'm assuming you mean webcam, if so you will need a USB cable to connect that. If not you would need to put information about this "cam."

My monitor has gone to Power Save Mode

Hello,
If your monitor is going in Power save mode it can be cause by following reasons.
>Check the data cable going from monitor to your Dell Dimension 4600 Tower is connected properly. The connector will be blue or white in colour.
>If the Dell Dimension 4600 Tower is powering on.

If still in power save mode then try to shutdown Tower and monitor, disconnect power cable from tower and monitor.Hold the power button on tower for 15 seconds. Then again try to connect monitor and check,if still nogo, and if tower has no lights then issue with motherboard or video card or power supply. If possible try connect spare known good monitor.

Thankyou

It is turned on but screen stays black once tower is powered up.

we need to make sure whether its a Tower problem or monitor Problem>
Do this simple test> Disconnect the Cable that connects the Tower to the Monitor(while the tower and the monitor are on)> then see if you have any error msg on the monitor screen> if you have someting that says "Chk video cable" or " no signal"
Ur monitor is fine and the tower is faulty> IF not thn ur monitor has gone bad>
