Question about Boating

1 Answer

I have a pontoon seam that may be leaking on my 20' pontoon boat. If so, how can I repair it? It's made of aluminum and I have a boat lift so can raise it out of the water. Something like "Liquid Steel" or "Aluminum Repair Epoxy"? Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

I should think that if it is only a leak and not structural weakness or damage that epoxy of some sort would do the trick. make sure you dry and clean the metal well and degrease before applieing the material weather you apply in inside or out.

What soap should I use in order to wash my boat?

In order to wash your boat, you should use surfactants. If your boat contains aluminum, you should use special aluminum cleaners, such as Pontoon Boat Cleaner and Polish.

One of my pontoons leaks off fairly quickly, Its is leaking around the seam of the valve how do i fix or replace it?

With a leak kit supplied by the company that make the pontoon. They are either rubber or neoprene so the patch needs to be the right material and the glue needs to contain the right solvents. Cut a circular patch and use a punch to make a nice round hole to fit over the valve. Glue following the instructions.

Up here in Canada, both Canadian Tire and Bass Pro Shop do repair kits.

Differences between the tow boats

Aluminum is very light, easy to pick up (with 2 - 3 people), low maintenance. You don't have to do anything to an aluminum boat, except spray it off with some fresh water, when you pull it out of the water. Wood, NO, heavy, lots of maintenance - paint, varnish, chance of leaks. Get the aluminum
