Try a RESET, holding the MENU/On-Off button for more than 10 seconds.

When the player needs a long time to read a lot of files from one folder, reorganize files into a number of folders.
Should the player freeze, because the format of files does not match the M4204, use the easyRip software to get the data fitting for this device.

    Hello Kelly_beasle,

Your solution seems to be a help request.

It looks like the required or manually started upgrade, has not completed.

When you run the firmware upgrade 2 boxes should open at the same time:

    1. Upgrade Instructions

    2. Audiovox OPAL Firmware Download

When the firmware version details of box 2 have disappeared, look in the bar below to find and click it, to see if the current firmware inside the player shows up above the upgrade version. Version for the M4204, actual upgrade is 001.007.002 . Start the upgrade and wait until the task is complete. Finish the upgrade instructions.

When the player keeps initializing do NOT close the 2 upgrade boxes and follow the trouble shooting steps:

Step 1: Without closing the Update Device Application, disconnect your Player from your computer.

Step 2: Reset your Player ( to be able to restart Initializing again, later )

    a. If your Player uses AA or AAA batteries, remove them from the Player

    b. If your Player uses an internal battery, press and hold the POWER button for 10 seconds

Step 3: Hold down the PLAY key on your Player and connect it to the PC via a USB cable.

Step 4: Release the PLAY key when a progress bar and text, "initializing" appears on the Players display. If you cannot see the "initializing" text, please disconnect your Player and try again.

Step 5: Click the START button in the Audiovox OPAL Firmware Download as described in the steps of the Upgrade Instructions.

I have the same problem. I have downloaded the firmware upgraded from the rca website, formatted the player. I have also tried to reset it as stated. Nothing. However i can access it from the computer and play the music files before i formatted it. I have looked for a number for RCA customer support but havn't been able to find one. My computer will find it fine, but when i disconnect it from the computer and turn it on, it stays on the initializing screen. When i downloaded the firmware upgrade all it gave me was a box explaining how to do the upgrade and that was it..

The screen olways turn white

Initially you have to flash your mobile. update its firmware and then try.
If firmware up gradation doesn't work then this can be the issue with LCD itself.

best of luck!

When i turn it on, it stays black, cannot see anything, and yes i took the lens cover off.

hi let me ask you little more beside your description. would you check if you can see menu on lcd. if yes, then might has two cause. first is shutter doesn't open at initial power on position due to sand damaged or oil contaminate on blade. second is ccd unit or main pcb defective( more open to main pcb defective.) you could bring to your local repair shop. they will charge you around $85 to 135 if it is the problem... Good luck with you!
