OK ..here is the deal..
If you forgot the password and the user for to log into settings for the router ..by typeing the IP address into the browser..the only thing that you have to do is to reset it ..and will be on factory settings again ...
factory settings are ..Ip 192.168.1.1
user- admin
password-admin
it may be a different ip address though ..it is written on its back ....
To reset see that it has on side a litthe hole ..that says reset ..you have to power it up..disconect from the computer and internet ..and with the router powered..you have to insert a ball point pen in that hole and press and keep it pressed (not to hard ) for 30 seconds...
after that shut down replug and try to use admin for both cases to get into settings ..if it do not works try again untill you reset it ...THis is the factory procedure from the manual and it working all the time ...only you have to be patient if you do not get it from the frst time ..maybe the button inside do not work
after that will inser the http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and enter ..
will show the user and password cases..write the words admin ..and admin for both and log in ..

Dont know wpa number

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to obtain the WPA or Network Key on your router you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access your router you need to use a computer that is connected to it. Open a Browser then type 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net. The Default username is admin and the password is password. Password is case sensitive.

Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Where do I find the security key for netgear wireless g router WGR614v9-serial number *1W91867RO33ES* as I wish to install a usb wireless adapter on my wife's computer

The encryption key is a security key. The encryption key is configured in the Netgear's wireless setting. To get these settings ie. the SSID and the WPA or WPA2, open a browser and type the Netgear's configuration URL - http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
Then go to the wireless settings to get this information.
This SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption key is then used to configure the USB wireless adapter so it can connect to the Netgear.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Securing wireless connection

Hi again, glad to help if I can.

Securing the wireless signal will temporarily disconnect the PS3, which will need to be set up with the new security details in order to connect again.

There are four steps, which are the same for most routers:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection
2) Change the router login password 3) Change the network name (SSID)
3) Enable WPA encryption

Here are the details:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection.
On your desktop PC, open a web browser, as if to view a web page. Type the router address into the address bar, which is http://192.168.0.1 for this model. You can also use www.routerlogin.com for Netgear.

You should then see a popup box, prompting you for a username and password. If these have not been changed, they will be the defaults of username: admin and password: password

If you log in successfully, you should then see the Netgear configuration screen.

2) Change the router login password.
To set a new password, go to the left hand menu: under ‘Maintenance’ click ‘Set Password’. Set and confirm a new password. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

Make sure this is not easy to guess, otherwise someone could login to your router and view/change your settings. (Tip: write the password on a label and stick it on the router, or keep it somewhere safe. )

3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Setup > Wireless Settings. Under ‘Wireless Network’ you should see an option marked ‘Name’ or SSID. Change this from the default, ‘netgear’, to anything you like, that you can remember. You will need this when setting up the PS3 again. It is case sensitive, and you can use up to 32 letters –but do not use something that could identify you, or your location.

4) Enable encryption
Still in the 'Wireless Settings' menu option, you should see the ‘Security Options’ section. You have a number of options, but I would pick WPA-PSK, which is very secure and good for most equipment.

Under ‘WPA-PSK Security Encryption’ you need to enter a network key. This is a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HappynEWYeartoyou8899). It is case sensitive.

Note down the network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. (The network key may also be called the WPA shared key, PSK, pre-shared key, passphrase, or authentication key.) Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.

There are further security options to enable if you wish, but these three are the most important.

When you next connect wirelessly, or go to configure the PS3, a scan should bring up the router with its new name in the 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

Hope this helps you. Please come back to Fixya if it doesn't, or if you need help with any of it. Good luck!

Forgotton name and password

have you tried admin and password? The defaults if you haven't changed them.

Or if you did.

Reset for most routers with a reset button on the rear panel
Write down configuration information such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services, etc., that you modified. (The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)
  1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait for the router to reboot.
  4. Log in with the default password. If the router was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.
  5. Unplug the router's power.
  6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
  7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
  8. Wait for the router to reboot.
  9. Log in with the default password.
