SOURCE: whirlpool electric dryer keeps tripping main circuit breaker

First off, be sure the pigtail is wired correctly to the back of the unit. Black and red to the outside terminals, white to the middle, green to the frame or cabinet (should be a green screw close-by). If that is ok, you probably have an issue with possibly a bad pigtail, bad outlet, wiring issue, or possibly a bad circuit breaker or breaker box. Probably going to be more of a electrical problem than a appliance problem. Good Luck!!!!

if it trips it off immediately after starting or wont even let you reset the breaker, you have a direct short(wire off a terminal ) or your heater element has broken and is hitting against side wall

SOURCE: My new maytag centennial electric keeps tripping

Hi Matt
I'm not sure that swapping out the breakers to higher rated ones will give you a solution so I'll throw in 2 cents to see if my advice holds true. Let's start by asking this. Is the appliance "rated" at 220 volts at 30 amps per leg. I assume this from your post as to what it has been rated. Next - How long is the "run" of wire from the junction box to the outlet where the appliance plugs in? This usually does not matter in most households but if the run is of significant length it may need a larger gage wire to support the current draw of the appliance. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, are the lugs and wire connectors tight at the outlet, the plug, and the breaker box. A loose connection will ramp up the current fast. This is assuming the first two items were met. Tell me if any of this helps and we'll work it out from there.
Thanks.
Len

Check to make sure the breaker is rated for the current draw of the dryer. If it is, you MAY have a bad breaker. Replace your breaker and If the dryer is still tripping the breaker, your dryer needs to be repaired by a qualified technician.... the heating element is probably burned up and shorting out.

I have a sears kenmore gas dryer model 87592820 it keeps blowing the breaker. It was running about 1 min. then a spark flew out and it tripped the breaker. When I reset the breaker it continues to trip it....

Hi,
This sounds like you have a wire that rubbed through and is shorting out...
open up the back or where you saw the sparks come from and you will easily see the burnt mark...then you can fix it...

Do not keep trying the breaker... it is tripping to protect you and keep you safe.

Tumble dryer keeps tripping the mains

The twin breakers for the dryer circuit should be rated at 30 amps. Have the current draw checked on each wire leading from both breakers (with a clamp-on ammeter) while the dryer is operating. If the breakers trip just as soon as the dryer is started, there is very likely a short to ground/neutral within the dryer case (usually the heating element).

The heating element is shorted. This is an electric dryer, right? replace the heating element. Make damn sure it's un-plugged when you work on it!
