Refrigerator has error code ER IF on front panel. I'm told by LG that this stands for "error ice fan". Unplugging refrig for 3 - 4 hrs per recomendation did not help. Sears technician took a bunch of panels apart today, concluded along with supervisor on phone after 2 hrs that Ice Fan indeed does not work. Now rescheduled to replace circuit board (this will be the second time!) and Ice Fan. Seems to me that if he had the right diagnostic tools that he could have come to that conclusion WITHOUT taking apart the refrigerator. Isn't there some kind of diagnostic tool that plugs into the control board to read faults?? Is this a common problem? Refrigerator was purchased in Oct 2007.
Just had this same problem. We were away at Disney for four days - turned the icemaker off before we left. We have the LG french door double drawer freezer model. Came home, the ER IF code was displayed. Wouldn't dispense water or ice. Took the icebox out, and it was all frozen in the augers. Then I read on the door something to this effect - "if you turn off the icemaker, it will not continue to cool the ice. This will cause the ice to melt and leak out of the unit, and when it refreezes, the dispenser will not produce ice or water."
So, I took the ice box out, emptied it, reinstalled it, and the unit os making ice and dispensing water as I write.
Again, if you turn off the icemake, empty the ice box, or you will get the error message when you start the ice maker again.

LG refrigerator "Er IF" error code is the "Icemaker Fan Error" message.T his error code indicates a problem with the fan
that controls the unit's ice production. If this problem occurs because
of ice buildup, unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours and allowing it to
thaw may fix the issue. Call customer service if that doesn't work.
1. yes. Open ice room door (back side of left hand refrig door) and turn toggle switch on icemaker to OFF. 2. yes. Do step 1 and connect water to refrig. 3. ER IF (Error Ice room Fan) may still come up. If it does and you don't like it, you could probably avoid that by removing the fan blade from the ice room fan, located in the freezer section, behind the back wall, upper left hand corner. The error code pops up when the electronic board does not see a feedback signal from the ice room fan. Removing the fan blade should allow the motor to run, thus sending the feedback signal to the board, preventing the code from appearing.
Er IF - Ice-maker Fan Error - This can be caused by frost accumulation on or around the ice maker fan. Unplug the unit for 3-4hoursto allow this to melt off. If error code persists, call customer care to check & replace ice maker fan motor.Thanks.
Er FF - Freezer Fan Error - This can be caused by frost accumulation on or around the freezer fan. Unplug the unit for 3-4 hours to allow this to melt off. If error code persists, call Customer Service.
This is an error code for the icemaker fan motor. If the control does not see a signal coming back from the fan motor you will get this error code. Please see the image below from the service manual that explains the ER IF error code.
I'm no major appliance repairman. However, after reading several posts, I investigated the issue further since I received an ER FF on the front panel. I have a LFX25960SW refrigerator. I pulled the top and bottom baskets out, and was able to take the back panel out from inside. There was a solid block of ice built up around both fans and wires. I took a blow dryer and gradually melted the ice around the fans and wires. Then, as I was able, I pulled the remaining ice chunks off of the wires. I put the thing back together and it cleared the message. My wife says no more LG appliances for us. :)
The message is ERROR ICE FAN. You can order a new one from LG for around $65 and if you know someone handy they can probably put it in by just eyeballing the old one. WARNING>>>>this must be someone with common sense and some degree of problem solving skills as it does not come with the fan blades and that must be switched. This is a common problem with this model and usually the ice fan goes out in about 12-20 months. Use your owners manual to figure out how to get the door off and access the fan. Also, Lg employees are confused and may try to tell you there is just one fan......they did tell me that!
The ER IF is part # 46811B1029E---The ER FF (freezer fan) is part # 4681JK1004E and only a skilled repairman can modify them to be interchanged.
The error indicates the freezer fan is not functioning properly. The
fan supplies cold air to the refrigerator that is why it seems warmer.
The fan may be frozen, try unplugging it for a few hours to let it
thaw. Also check to see if something may have gotten into the vent
holes in the freezer that could be blocking the fan from turning.
