SOURCE: ptac fan keeps blowing

Try setting the fan control to "AUTO" this will cause it to cut out with the compressor.

Sounds like the unit either has been miswired from the beginning or there is a stuck contactor relay.

The more rare scenario is that the control wire between the t-stat and the contactor is shorting to a power source causing the relay to energize. Good Luck!

SOURCE: I have a coleman/evcon heat

I would check the hig voltage power supply to the unit. Check the main breaker and make sure it is on. Check the disconnect and make sure there is power at that point to the condensing unit. The contactor will kick in from the low voltage in the control circuit.

SOURCE: york central ac keeps blowing 3amp fuse on the

sounds like you have short in the low voltge side of the electrical circuit. I would check the thermostat wires outside at the condenser. look for any bare or exposed wires from where the wire comes from the house to the condenser. the thermostat wire will be a brown wire that is run on the outside which sends a signal to the contactor to make the condenser work. common cause his rodents or happens when weed whacking around condenser. Hope this get you started.

Auto/On set to ON. Fan runs.

Sounds like the thermostat, the way to verify is to unplug indoor unit, remove thermostat, take pic of wiring with phone or label the wires as to the terminals. Carefully twist the yellow,(Y) Red (R) and the green (G) together. Plug the furnace back in, if the unit operates normally, replace the thermostat. I am basing this on the fact that the blower speed is changing. This could also be an anomaly within the circuit board in the furnace section, not likely though as the outside unit (condenser) is not controlled n by the indoor board unless this is a heat pump. hope this helps. Compressor will not stay on.

very good possibility that it is low on freon. If indoor unit is blowing ambient air, not cooling is happening. If this is the case and you are sure the compressor is running and then shutting off, the compressor could be overheating and the internal overload is taking out the compressor. If outdoor fan runs and compressor runs, probably cause. If capacitor is bad, unit would most likely not run that long. While unit is running, feel the large line at the condensing unit. If it is cold, and stays cold, could be something else going on. If stays warm, most likely low on freon.

turn the unit off for 5-10 mins. turn thermostat to coldest setting then turn unit back on. see if the compressor kicks on in a minute . it may need to reset itself.

Air compressor does not kick in unless ambient temp is > 80

Do not operate low fan and maximum temperature as the coils will freeze up stopping air flow.

AC/Heatpump units cycle numerous times blowing ambient air.

If the compressor never kicks in, I would check the start capacitor, thermostat and the compressor windings. Most times the start capacitor is defective. Some window air conditioners the fan will run while the compressor stop through the thermostat switch. If the thermostat switch is bad every thing runs except the compressor. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Will not cool properly.

You have either a faulty thermostat, dirty condenser and evaporator or a faulty run capacitor. Need to service soon before the compressor is damaged. Sea Breeze
