Question about Acer Extensa 5620-4020 Notebook
1If you have the recovery cd, you can just pop-in the CD, select the reformat option and the installation process will continue automatically. Some laptop might have a special partition in the drive contains the operating system, drivers, etc. in case you want to reformat your laptop without the CD.
2If you don't have the recovery CD, you usually can request one from the manufacturer. Otherwise, if you want to do a clean install, make sure you download all the drivers for your laptop, this may includes: motherboard, chipset, graphic card, sound card, modem, network card. Once you do that, put in the OS CD and start installing.
3If you decided to do a clean install without the recovery CD, it would be best to create partition on your harddrive first, so you can have dedicated partition for operating system and backup. The next time you want to reformat your harddrive, you can just reformat that particular partition ex. C:\
4After the reformatting process finished and you have installed a new clean OS. Install drivers one by one and restart when it's required. Try to do it in order from basic function -> secondary ex. motherboard, chipset, graphic, sound, modem, networking, etc.
5Install back all programs that you might need. If you already backup the installation programs or have the installation CDs handy, you can do this pretty fast.
6Rearrange the look and customize your new operating system, refer to the screenshot you have taken earlier before the reformatting process begin if you want to get the same look and feel.

I have had this problem on several Acer models in the workshop and cured them in slightly different ways.
The first had hinges that felt slightly rough and not smooth operating when closing the lid. This was cured by applying a very short spay of aerosol silicone grease to the hinges and wiping off the excess. It seems that dirt sometimes gets in the hinge and can prevent the hinge from closing properly. It’s a very fine amount to stop the sleep switch from activating.
On the second the case seemed to be square and there were no seeming misalignments with the screen hinges etc. It also moved freely but did appear to be slightly worn so instead of replacing the entire screen surround and with the customers agreement I had to resort to a very small blob of two part epoxy resin on top of the protruding plastic nodule. This was filed, with a needle file, to remove a slight overhang and coloured black. Now no further problems.
The third laptop had the screen removed and the hinges cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and then a smear of aerosol silicone grease applied to the hinges before reassembly.
The fourth was the most expensive option as the screen surround had to be replaced. To do this gently remove the 4 black rubber inserts on the screen surround face and unscrew the 4 exposed screws. Gently lift off the screen surround and replace with the new one. Reinsert the 4 screws and replace the 4 black rubber inserts to hide the screws. Removal of the screen surround also gives access to the hinges.

Testimonial: "I took a 3 year warranty on the laptop when I bought it and it is now just 12 months old. I am happy to do a quick fix rather than send it away. thanx"
