A fuse is placed in-line so that it will go before it does much damage elsewhere. When does it blow the fuse? If when starting...it may be a short in the starter....while running it maybe the electric PTO wire grounding the frame somewhere....check your wires to see if there is a bare one from rubbing on the frame somewhere first.

What causes fuse to blow every time I try to engage blades?

To engage the blades is it a knob to an electric switch that you pull?
If so does the wire from the switch activate a electric clutch?
Is the wire damaged and shorted to the frame, is the clutch shorted. If you provide the brand name and model number I might be able to find a schematic for your mower.

Video shows an electric clutch but yours may be different but this should give you an idea of where to look. Riding Mower Electric PTO Clutch Won Engage When Hot Problem Fix

Replace fuse

You may be putting in a fuse that has too low of an amperage. Check the manual and put in the proper size. if they still keep blowing, there is a short or a wire grounding somewhere.

Tractor keeps blowing a fuse

Check for a wire that has a bare spot on it rubbing the body of this mower. The vibration the engine makes shakes the wiring so it must have a bare spot somewhere under the seat or towards the engine

sounds as though you are on the right track
but be sure to check the wiring directly from the electric clutch on the front of the motor back to the switch
a wire could be pinched in the frame and shorting out intermittingly
look around and find those wires and move them around and look for chaffing and tightness
and what you could also do is to unhook the clutch at the connection to it at the front of the motor and engage switch and ride around and see if fuse blows and if not you may have an electric clutch issue

My riding mower blows fuses once you turn the key.

Sounds like you are on the right path, maybe some wires on the ignition were replaced backward, and you are sending +12v directly to ground? Does it blow right away?

FUSE BLOWS WHEN BLADES ARE ENGAGED CRAFTSMAN MODEL # 917.27686

Most probably you have a wire shorting to the frame of your mower.

Trace (follow) the wires from the switch, checking for any frayed, burned, or bare wires.

Repair as needed.
