Question about Audiovox PVS33116 Player

Won't charge My Audiovox PVS33116 portable DVD player will not charge. I've used it three times and never let the battery run completely out, plugged it in to charge it, and nothing happens. No light comes on to show it's charging and it doesn't turn on.

I have the same problem as Dave16. Could the problem be the charger? The dvd player won't run when plugged in to AC outlet, either.

  • Euromom Apr 18, 2008

The charger for the car will work but the charger to use in an electrical outlet will not work. Very annoying!

  • Go_guy May 07, 2008

My AC adapter is not working either. I also checked it with my multimeter.

I HAVE THE SAME PRBLEM AS THE OTHERS USED IT A 1/2 DOZEN TIMES AND WHEN I PLUG IN THE CHARGER NOTHING HAPPENS NO LIGHT OR ANYTHING HOW WILL THEY FIX THIS

  • JLMERRIF May 18, 2008

Sounds like a ongoing problem with the Audiovox. Mine worked for couple of months, then it would only work on battery. After that nothing...no power. Car adapter works however, so it will be ok for our vacation.

I logged on the Audiovox and they do not list anywhere for parts.

I have the same problem as everybody else. I've had the DVD player since Christmas 2007. My daughter's have used the player a lot in these few months but all of a sudden the AC adapter won't charge the player. I'm going to try the car outlet and see if that works. It doesn't really help though on plane trips.

only used at home since march 23rd and now will not charge

  • zelda47 Jun 16, 2008

I've used it maybe 6 times and I never let the power get low.We were watching
'Sicko", a Michael Moore production and it just went dead.It must hate the American health care system too! It sure killed it.
I've toyed with every button on this thing and there is just no sign of life.

  • Anonymous Jul 06, 2008

I've had this since January 2008, and my son has used very infrequently. We noticed that it wasn't holding a charge for long, then it just went dead. It looks like this is a common problem. Does anyone have any solutions?

    Won't charge!

  • missbuzybee Jul 24, 2008

Got this for Christmas and it has worked well until yesterday - Will not charge at all from the wall, though I have checked the adapter and it has power. Do I need a new battery if the adapter is working? Anyone?

  • copygenius Aug 06, 2008

Same thing here... used a couple of times won't hold a charge for over 1 hour and shuts down. Now it won't charge... What can be done?

  • Anonymous Aug 18, 2008

I am having the exact same problem. Player worked fine for a few months and then boom while watching a movie "low battery" came on. When I plugged it into the wall no lights came on and everything shut down. Now the dvd player won't charge. This item did not come with a car charger when I purchased it so the dvd player is worthless. I believe audivox only has a 90 day warrant. Most of us seem to be out of luck. Apparently this is an ongoing problem. What needs to happen to get a class action suit to start? Everyone has wasted their money!!!

I'm having the same problem - neither the wall or car charger will work - I was thinking of getting a new battery, so I wondered if anyone else has tried a new battery???

If there is a suit filed, count me in! This is ridiculous!

  • DeSandMiA Aug 28, 2008

I have had the same problem with this item. Literally used it ten times before the low battery light came on and it failed to charge. Now the unit wont even turn on. I even bought a new charger for it thinking that maybe it was just a defective charger, now I have two chargers that wont work, and a DVD player that wont even turn on. This is ridiculous

  • Anonymous Aug 28, 2008

I'm having the same problem. The low battery light came on, then the unit shut down. The wall adapter won't work to power it OR to charge it.

  • ErinMichele Aug 29, 2008

I am having the same problem. I bought the dvd player a week ago and when I last used it 2 days ago it worked fine. It was plugged into the wall when we last used it, it wasn't even going off battery power. Now I just tried to turn it on and nothing. No power lights at all. I can't believe it, I just bought this player!!!

  • unkbina Aug 30, 2008

I went to charge the battery today - nothing happened. No light. Only used the player a few times since purchase last November. Thought about throwing it out rather than send it in and absorb a ridiculous charge. The manual says battery is built-in and non-replaceable but I opened battery compartment and found that the battery is just a plug in. Why the deception? So I checked the internet looking for a replacement battery and discovered all the other people having the same problem. Should I spring for a new battery and have the same problem down the road a bit? Hah.

    same problem..its ridiculous

  • Anonymous Oct 06, 2008

I have the same problem. We were using it with the adapter and then all of a sudden it turn off and will not turn back on. What can we do to get this fix. I suggest the better Business Bureau. WE have only used this a few times and for the price we paid- C'mon.

  • Anonymous Nov 04, 2008

We bought our for my son last christmas from target at a "cheap" price. Know we can't get it to power on or take a charge either. Still looking for answers to this one if anyone has any ideas on what to do.

  • mstopar4 Nov 04, 2008

Yes. I too have this problem. We've had it for less than 1 year and barely used it. The machine's dead and I'm not happy about it, especially after reading that I'm not the only unfortunate consumer to get taken.

  • Debbie P Nov 05, 2008

We too have the same problem. I purchased 3 Audiovox 10" portable DVD players (Model PVS33116) last Christmas for my three children from Target. Only one of the units has the problem, the other two are working and charging fine. Fortunately for us, my childred can share the remaining good power adapters. I would like to have a new adapter though, it is not right that the only solution is to purchase another one. Audiovox or Target should stand behind the products they sell.

  • coolblue2000 Nov 12, 2008

    Will not Charge.

  • brendagchan Nov 15, 2008

Yup, I have the same problem. Could I use a different charger?

  • JNPH Nov 16, 2008

I am having the same problem! Neither the car charger nor the wall adapter will work and I have only used the item 3 times. I purchased it from Target and they refuse to help. Target should stand behind their product and offer a refund and have a recall!

  • png21 Nov 23, 2008

My 7 year old son bought this with his birthday money. He used it a few times a week...It lasted about 4 months. When I called Audiovox, they basically said I was S.O.L. He said that his best advice was to either send it back and pay for repair or find a local repair guy.....I would never buy an audiovox again.....

  • twincop746 Dec 02, 2008

Same problem that the others have cited - the unit will not power up or charge. This does seem to be a widespread problem.

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2008

    **** man!!!

  • me2009 Dec 11, 2008

Same issue! Used the player about 3 times and then it sat on a shelf. A couple of weeks later I went to use it and neither charger would work - no power lights, nothing.

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2008

Same problem. Used it a handful of times and now plug it in and nothing happens. The battery never charged to its full potential, only worked for one hour using the batter. Bought it one year ago from Target

  • job1200 Jan 02, 2009

Does anyone know the warranty on this product? We should file a class action suit because obviously we are all having the same problem with the charger and they must know about it. Mine is only a couple months old and used sparingly - now its dead. I called Audiovox at 800-645-4994 and went thru automated hell to speak with someone. They referred me to www.18002526123.com which sells parts (chargers) for the DVD player. That is totally bogus - they sell a bad product then want me to flip the bill to get it repaired. I don't think so.

I found that the charger had no power out-put when I checked it with a multi-meter.

The battery died. Can I purchase a new one can I use my portable dvd player without a battery?

hello,

you can purchase a new battery from an electronic shop close to you.

try to charge the battery for a while, then test it if it will work without being plugged to a power supply.

you can also use you audiovox PV33116 player without the battery, but you should take note that as soon as the power supply goes off, the player goes off too.

so it is advisable for you to get a new battery.

take care.

Audiovox PVS33116 will not power up!

Does the unit has no power with the AC cord?

Nov 12, 2008 | Audiovox PVS33116 Player

1 Answer

No power

Apparently Audiovox does not support the pvs33116 dvd player. Nor does the manufacturer Alco. Support and accessories can be found at http://www.1800customersupport.com/products.aspx?type=pad&view=1385&p=75&sc=5

Thus one can purchase a $15.00 ac adapter, $20.00 battery, or a $10 dc adapter for a dvd player that's worth about 10 cents.
