Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

1 Answer

My laptop will not start after BIOS update pushed to me by HP Healthcheck.HP will not fix and expects me to replace PC or pay $399 for new board. Hewlett-Packard needs to be accountable for pushing a malicious BIOS file to my PC. They admitted on the service call (that cost $49) that this problem is now worldwide as they push Windows 7 software to all PCs without informing customers that this will destroy your PC if not on Windows 7. I spent two hours on the phone while a service person from India asked me to disconnect and reconnect the memory, optical disk, hard drive all in succession. There was no way these diagnostics would work.

I had exactly the same problem last night. HP's 'Health Check' recommended that I flash the BIOS of our new HP Dv7-1175. Had the computer about 3 days, and was receiving some strange errors reporting unrecogized USB devices not recognized and a buggy USB driver. So, OK, Flash the BIOS.

Precisely the same thing occurred. The utility for flashing the BIOS ran, seemed to work, shut down the computer. Then nothing.

I restarted to a backlit screen, no POST or BOOT. Here's how I solved the problem (though I can't tell you why it worked, other than it obviously reset the CMOS).

1) Turned off the computer

2) Removed Battery and disconnected power cord.

3) Waited, pensively, for 5ish minutes (read several places to wait for 20 minutes; I didn't)

4) Plugged the power cord back in (I did NOT reinsert the battery)

5) Holding down the Insert/Scroll button, I held the power button down for 20-30 seconds. Nothing happened until I released the power button. When I released the power button (still holding the Insert/Scroll button depressed), the computer came up and Windows booted. Could not, at that point, get ESC pressed; wouldn't let me into the BIOS.

6) Restarted and prayed, came up normally; opened the BIOS by hitting ESC at the proper time, reset to defaults (just to be sure).

The computer has seemed to work operate normally since, though for the life of me, I can't tell you why this worked. I was, for the record, trying to press the Insert button, so if yours has these separated-- as my Toshiba does-- then I'd start with that.

Hope this helps someone.

How to update bios? what is the latest firmware?

Be careful with these on-line updates, because after restart you'll get a black screen. Try to discover what exactly you have inside, board name, revisions .... Than ask HP what to do?

HP MINI 2101170NR bios

The problem is the motherboard, HP is known for issues with the main board, the only option is to replace the motherboard to fix it. If your bios was corrupted that would only happen if there was a update in progress and a power failure happened at that critical moment and the board would be completely dead with no power anywhere including the key board.

it looks like you have something extra connected that is the bios manufacturer, if you have a new external hard drive connected to it try to remove`it and connect it after your windows starts up in other scenario your computer try`s to detect a hardware that does not respond properly

Hi there , yes it is mother board problem. But $399 is really too expensive for 2 years old laptop. I suggest you buy a new updated laptop & take out the HDD from the old laptop. Visit a service center & tell them you want to make that HDD for external using purpose. They will fix it for you & maximum 30 $ they charged for it. So you get a updated laptop & your all old data with external HDD. Now why i suggest you for a new laptop. If you pay 399$ for motherboard then you can use it. But again if you feel some thing wrong in other parts then you go for buy that. Finally when you make a total cost you will see a new laptop prize. Hope you understand my meaning.
Thanks &waiting for your feedback.

HP Pavillion dv5000 laptop will not load windows.

I had this problem, because I have had my HP Pavillion Dv 9000 laptop replaced 3 times. There is a recall on those laptops. The mother board is no good. HP fixes the problem at no cost to you even if it is out of warranty. There is also a freeware and software BIOS update that was just released. And if your screen ever cracks there is a recall on that as well with the left display hindge. My solution: Call HP at 800-474-6836 they are available 24/7 365. Make sure you have your notebook Model number and serial number ready.

HP Presario V2000 Laptop Turning off after a few minutes on

Sounds more like the CPU is over heating. This is a fairly common fault on laptops after dust hair etc build up in the fins of the heatsink from the cpu.
After it blocks up, the fan can not push air through it to cool the cpu down and so the laptop goes into thermal shutdown to protect itself.
