Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

2 Answers

My Maytag Neptune washer gets to the spin cycle but then invariably stops and shows a DC or UC code. It stops and sometimes, it will start spinning again if I redistribute the clothes but mostly, it will not continue the spinning and draining or water. The repairman said it was a clutch and pulley replacement for $550! I would love to do this myself.

Yep if the tub is banging around and you error out with dC or Uc unbalance codes it’s time to drop the clutch out and maybe get you will get away with clutch One-Way Roller clutches bearing maintenance.

I have a process not the best for sure but maybe it will help see this post. I thought the process was posted on this site some where.

Maybe the One-Way Roller clutches can be cleaned up with a wash of WD-40 and re-lube with Slick50-One Lube or your favorite bearing grease.

If the One-Way Roller Clutches are severely rusted up replace the Clutch. What are the first two digits of your serial number? It will be 10 through 17. From what I have learned the series 10 and 11 machines use the Upper One-Way roller clutches bearing ring. All use the Clutch Pulley mounted One-Way roller clutches bearing. If your machine doesn’t use the upper bearing ring don’t install if you replace the clutch pulley.

When you drop out the clutch pulley and before you clean up anything try this little test.

Holding what I call the Spinner Shaft coupler first picture. Insert that coupler into the Clutch One-Way Roller bearing plate. Now while holding the Spinner Shaft Coupler with one hand as I show in the second pic with your other hand rotate the white bearing plate in the CW direction around the Spinner Shaft Coupler.

The One-Way Roller Clutch bearing plate should rotate freely in the CW direction this is the wash/agitate direction. Now rotate the One-Way Roller Clutch bearing plate in the CCW direction it should lock up solid.

Most times the One-Way Roller clutches will slip did it slip for you? This will cause the agitator shaft to move slightly causing slight tumbler rotation while the wash basket begins to spin up unbalancing the wash load causing big time wash tub swings and those pesky unbalance error codes.

The Control Board sees the TDS analog voltage swings out of design limit and shuts down the spin cycle. If the TDS was not working as designed the machine would walk across the room and unplug itself or self-destruct. The Control Board programming will try several attempts to redistribute the wash load and when the magic number of wash load redistribution attempts has been reached the Control Board signals a dC or uC error code to the display. I believe the FAV9800A signals a text error to the display i.e. “unbalance condition” or something like that…..Good Luck

Maytag Nuptune... when it reaches the spin cycle, it spins, reverses direction spins , then stops. I push the start button and once again it goes through the one spin and reverse and stops again

""when it reaches the spin cycle, it spins, reverses direction spins""

So I understand do you have the washer top raised to view this action? The wash basket rotates one rotation or are you talking about the tumblers?

If you raise the washer lid and rotate the wash basket CCW the Spin direction will it rotate CCW with very little effort?

Any dC or UC error code on fail to Spin?

If you do Spin Only Cycle do you have the same results.

I would enter Service Mode and do the Quick Spin test on page 14 of the Service Manual and see what the results are.

Maytag neptune FAV6800AWW top load washer gets to 32 minutes left and goes no further. It starts to cycle for about 5 seconds and stops for about 35 seconds... over and over and over

Is the machine in Spin Cycle when this is happening? What part of the washer selected cycle does the Cycle Status LED say the machine cycle is in.
If it’s in the Spin Cycle I think you have a clutch issue. Do you take any error codes to the LED console display such as dC or uC?
If you stop the machine in that cycle and do a Spin Only cycle will it complete?
Do you want to DIY the fix? Let me know and I will try to help…..Rich

Spin Cycle has stopped at 13 minutes Code dc.

If your machine is a FAV6800A to FAV9800A here is the Service Manual.

If it one of those machines I suspect a possible clutch malfunction. See this post for what is involved to do clutch maintenance or replacement.

Error code of "dc" on my TL Maytag Neptune

If your machine is FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW the dc/UC errors are caused by a clutch malfunction. Your machine is shutting down with those errors so your Tub Displacement Sensor is working as designed.

Fix the Clutch malfunction and you can wash a single sock or a load of blue jeans and you will not take the dc or UC unbalance errors. See this post for the fix.

Post back if you have questions or need help.

UC code on my Maytag Neptune Washer FAV6800WW

HI. this uc code represents a no spin state of the unit. this is caused by a faulty Motor control assembly. you will need to replace the Motor control assembly. this will fix this issue and, restore the normal actions of the unit.

This Motor control assembly will cost about $219.00.

Neptune won't advance from Rinse to SPIN

If the clutch fails the first thing noticed is a UC or DC error displayed and there is no drain or spin.

If you are seeing the above error and having a problem with spin and drain then the most likely cause of this is the clutch. The clutch fails to lock down the spinners and the basket is unable to go into spin and without a 90 RPM there is no drain.

Replace the clutch.
