Power port on the notebook PCs is not a customer replaceable part. For your convenience, I am providing you the service manual of your notebook from where you get complete information to replace the power port of the notebook.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295877.pdf

refer page no: 81 & 82
NOTE: PDF manuals require the Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing and printing.
However, if you experience any inconvenience while replacing the part, then I recommend you to contact a nearest Authorized Computer Service Center. I hope this information would be helpful to resolve the issue.

Icant fully install any windows operating system on hp pavillion dv6636nr

Use the installation disk you have (should have been Vista Home) and do a complete format and disk check to make sure the hard drive is in good condition. Just to define whether it's a software or hardware problem, then go to: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
and download the 32Bit version to burn to a cd and load it from there. If you're successful, you'll know that the problem lies in the software you're using. If you choose to install Windows, get some new CD's to do it with and be sure you use the appropriate 32/64 bit version for your mother board. When in doubt, always go for the 32B. Good Luck

Tip

Setting up (HP Jetdirect print server) Printers on a network

To install the HP printers with a built-in Jetdirect print server as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Configure the HP's IP address using the printer's Menu options.
Enable the Network and configure the Network settings so it matches the IP range of your network. eg if your IP's are 192.168.0.xxx then set the HP to a high number say 100, set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer to the network hub/router with a LAN cable and power up the printer.
4. Click on Printers an Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bidirectional support and then OK

You need to install the printer driver and configure the TCP/IP port for HP printer the same way on every computer on your network.
Now any computer on your network can print to this printer.

For detailed instructions on configuring the Jetdirect card, go to this WEB site.

Recently shifted house and need instructions on how to set up the HP Printer

Just plug the power plug of the printer into the power plug and the data cable to the usb port of the computer (back side). If you have a cd with the printer insert the cd and install the printer drivers, or else download the printer driver fron internet by searching with the printer model number, (example: Cannon MP145 )

My wireless mouse has quit working. I'm guessing I need a new battery. However, I can't figure out how to even find the battery, let alone change it! How do I do that????

Cutting down on the number of wires that must be tolerated in a work station adds to maneuverability and ease of location. For all their convenience, though, wireless accessories bring with them a number of issues not present in their wired counterparts, most significantly battery change.
Instructions

    • 1 Turn off the mouse.
    • 2 Remove the top of the top of the battery compartment. The button that releases it is located toward the rear of the mouse.
    • 3 Remove the old battery and place the new one in its place. Replace the cover and turn the mouse back on.

HP dv6636nr DVD/CD not working

This is a common problem try this: Windows XP
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  4. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  7. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  9. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  10. Exit Registry Editor.
  11. Restart the computer.

HP Pavilion dv6636nr boot problem

When we talk about laptop won't boot up it is a hardware failure.

First of all, most of the hardware failures that are going to be presented in this article require you to disassemble the laptop and work on its internal components. Because of this, you need the required components to take the laptop apart (such as screwdrivers, etc.) and space, lots of space. If you don't have a workbench, then working on that large table in the living room should do it.

Second of all, you need to be extra careful about ESD (electrostatic discharge). Sure, this is important when working with a desktop system too, but you really shouldn't consider this as some sort of overreaction or waste of time. A few anti-static conductive bags should suffice. These are going to be useful when you take apart components from the laptop and you need a safe place to put them down.

If the laptop does not power on using the batteries, then try to power it using the AC adapter. Pay attention and see whether the LED on the laptop lights up, signaling that the adapter was detected. If yes, then your power jack works. If the notebook still does not power on, disassemble the laptop and remove the batteries. Look first for the CMOS battery and take it out.

Your best bet is that the problem is memory-related. What you need to do is re-seat the memory modules. If there are more than one, then try swapping them between each other and try different slots. Try booting again. If it does not work, then try running with only one module - this way, you can tell whether one is faulty.

Disassemble the laptop and remove the HDD, CD/DVD drives, and the modem and/or wireless card(s). If possible, take out the sound card module (if separate). To minimize the possible causes, you may disconnect the LCD panel as well. Try running this way. If it does boot, then try connecting each connector one at a time, booting up in between to localize the problem.

Good luck and take time to do a hard troubleshooting this trouble is not easy as well. You need to be care full in removing the some parts so that the other will not affected and being damaged.
