My 320 isn't recognized by either of my Vista computers. Is it the OS or the Celeron processor?

My drive is new, never used. I know for a fact 100% that my USB works. 3 MP3 players and 2 thumb drives can't lie. But its still not reading my drive as there, and it seems liek it should be working. Everyone who seems to have a problem says they have a blinking light, mine is not blinking, and it shows up as "safetly remove hardware", just not in "my computer" as a drive. I tried that "my computer/computer management/disc management" thing Lolita said, and it seemed like it worked, but still nothing! Now under disc management it displays the three volumes of hard drives I had before (2 drives, 1 is partitioned). But down below has it listed as "disc 2" but it has a black bar on top and it says Unallocated and I cant do anything with it. It does read that its 298 Gigs though (why not 320?) The other 2 disc drives have blue bars above them. No idea what that means. So thanks, it ALMOST worked!

Let me add acouple things to Lolita's solution: This worked on a I/O Magic Gigabank 320. If the initialize wizard does not appear. Go to the left side of the window that should have popped up listing all of your drives. Right-click on top of the drive you are adding. There should be a red circle with a minus sign on it. Right-click there and select initialize. Now the initialize wizard should start. The drive gets hot. I'd keep it off and only start it when needed. This may make it last longer and help with power surges as well.

I have an I/O Magic Gigabank 320.
Here's what I did.
Right-click on My Computer
Click Manage
Then choose Disk Management in side pane.
You have to right click on the left side of the window that pops up. Right on top of where it lists the Drive you are adding. There should be a red circle with a white minus in it.
Right click and select initialize disk.
Now the initialize wizard will start working.
If you don't use the quick format it may take one hour. I'm not sure of the difference.
Remember this is a usb driven external hard drive. It appears to be a sealed case with no vents.
It gets hot. Use it like a thumb drive and turn off when not in use.
I suspect that if you do this it will last longer and avoid power surges.

Hello,
If the external hard drive is new, you have to follow these steps:
right-click on My Computer
click Manage
then choose Disk Management in side pane.
a disk initialization wizard should appear.
Get the new drive formatted now and it should be ready
when you open the My Computer.
Let me know if you have any problems.

GigaBank 250 GB USB 2.0 External hard Drive - How to open case ?

Remove the cover plate from behind the drive (where the plugs and on/off switch are.) You have to then remove the 2 screws. After that pull on the end with the blue lights to slide the hard drive out. If you have a tower computer, you can permanently install the hard drive and it should work fine as a secondary drive. Just make sure the jumper pins are set to "slave".

Hard drive shuts off after 10 seconds

There are a variety of things that can malfunction on your external hard drive:
1) The cable
2) The external hard drive casing
3)  The hard drive itself

If you have tried plugging in your hard drive to different computers and are still having the same issue, then there is either a problem with your casing or with the hard drive itself, because you've already switched out cables.
If your hard drive casing has malfunctioned, then retrieving your data is as simple as putting the hard drive inside another hard drive enclosure.  Hard drive enclosures are available at any local computerstore, and also available by going to our website at www.iomagic.com and clicking on Drive Enclosure.  Make sure to get the right size enclosure.  The GigaBank 320 has a 3.5" Hard Drive inside it, which is a standard desktop hard drive.

If you put your hard drive in another enclosure and it still won't show up on any of your computers, then your best bet at retrieving your data is to contact a data recovery specialist.   After you have retrieved your data, we will replace your unit if you are still within your warranty period.

For specific warranty and replacement information, go to www.iomagic.com  and click on Support.

My computer will not read my io magic giga bank 6 gb

Was your computer ever able to recognize your GigaBank, or is it new?

The most common problem people have with a new drive not showing up in My Computer are:

1) The drive is not formatted

2) The drive letter is mapped incorrectly

You can check both of these things in Disk Management by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Manage, then clicking on Disk Management on the left hand side.

If your drive doesn't show up in Disk Management, and you are also unable to see the drive on multiple computers, then you may be experiencing a hardware malfunction.

If you are still within your warranty period and you are experiencing a hardware malfunction, we will be happy to replace your unit for you. Specific warranty and replacement information is available at www.iomagic.com, by clicking on Support.

DRIVERS FOR IOMAGIC 250GB (WIN XP)

The I250HD35 is plug-and-play with Windows XP. That means that all of the drivers needed to run your hard drive are included in Windows.

If your computer is asking for drivers when you plug in your drive, one of two things is probably happening:

1) Windows XP doesn't know where to look for the right drivers

2) Your drive has malfunctioned

The easiest way to assess which of these is happening is to take your drive and plug it into another computer that is running Windows XP. If it is detected properly on the other machine, then your computer doesn't have the right drivers or is looking in the wrong place for them. If it doesn't, then I/O Magic will be happy to replace your drive if it is still within the warranty period

If it is detected properly on another Windows XP machine, then when it asks for drivers, make sure to point it to the WindowsINF directory. This is where the default drivers are located.

If your drive is not detected properly on the other computer, your drive is probably experiencing a hardware malfunction. Please visit the I/O Magic website at www.iomagic.com and click on Support for specific return information.
