Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

1 Answer

I have a Samsung DLP and have had it for about 6 years now. Ever since we bought it it had a little difficulty turning on occasionally. It would not only take a while but when it did it would turn off after a couple of minutes. The problem has been getting worse lately. Now it is very difficult to turn on and when it does turns off after a few minutes and then you turn it back on and it turns off after a few minutes. Once it is warmed up it seems to be okay most of the time. Any thought? Now I can't get it to turn on.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This issue is related to the ballast, since it might not be sending enough voltage to the lamp or it can be sending more than it should. And, that’s why TV is entering the protection mode. Also make sure all the fans are working inside the TV and there are no swollen/bilged capacitors on the power supply board. Due to these capacitors the Power supply is not able to turn on the TV as the capacitors overheat and cause the shutdown. You will need to check and replace them. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

I just tried reseating the lamp and that seemed to work because I didn't want to spend the $$ on a new ballast, then a new lamp, then a new mainboard, etc. Your answer frightened me enough to want to try something simple. By the way how do you check the lamp hours?

Unfortunately there is no way that the lamp hours can be checked on this Samsung DLP however, normally a lamp works for around 2-4 years. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

Hope this helps:

Resetting the counter Once you have installed your OEM replacement lamp, resetting the counter is a very simple procedure:
• Begin with the TV powered off.
• Point your remote towards your TV.
• Press:
• Menu + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.
• Your TV set should now say "Loading Factory".
• Browse down to "Option" then press Enter (or the right cursor button).
To exit the service menu, hit press the EXIT button or just turn off your TV (remember not to turn on your TV immediately afterward!).
NOTE: The Mute+1+8+2 buttons needs to be pressed down consecutively and fairly quickly. If your TV does not enter the service menu after using this combination, you can substitute MENU instead of MUTE. This seems to work for some sets. Also, the right cursor arrow also acts as the ENTER button, so try it if you're having difficulty with the ENTER button.

Chris,

I had the same problem. I bought my tv at Best Buy and my warranty included a new bulb for the lamp. They only last about 2 yrs or so depending on how much you watch the tv. You can also buy replacement bulbs online that don't cost too much. BUT, you will need to replace every couple of years. The things you listed are exactly what happens when the bulb goes out. Hope this helps!

Hi,

You get white spots inside the samsung DLP tv due to bad Digital Micromiror Device , or bad DMD board .

What is actually the problem is the DMV chip connected to this board . Inside this chip are 3 million tiny mirrors ,and when they physically get stuck , they either show black or white instead of a color
This is well know problem with SAMSUNG DLP...

The DMD chip is failing. If not under warranty expect to pay a few hundred to several hundred to get it fixed

The mirrors on the DLP chip are slowly sticking either fully open (white) or fully closed (black). The part that contains the DLP chip is the Light Engine. It is the most expensive part of the TV.Only the Samsung TVs has this issue.

Replacing the DLP chip and the micro mirror would solve this issue...

Samsung HLS4226 DLP television turns off periodically

It is the lamp, go to bestbuy.com and at the bottom look for orderparts. this is a third part vendor that has many aftermarket parts to replace manufacturers. They might have a replacement bulb in there for you. They usually run $250 or so but vary per manufacturer
