Question about HP Photosmart 8050 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

My Photosmart 8050 still won't work. I got it to print a test page, align cartridges, and it worked fine. Now, when I try it online or not on line, it just won't take a command. Now, exactly which printer port I am supposed to use, and in general, exactly what to do. I have installed and reinstalled so many times, I lost count. I have it set for the printer usb, but which is the printer usb. I don't know anything about the settings. Anything else I can do, or what I what haven't done?

Hi!

First of all, you'll need to COMPLETELY uninstall the printer:
1. Unplug it from the computer.
2. Uninstall the ALL software/drivers through Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features - if you're using Windows Vista/7).
4. Restart the computer.
4. Go to Printers and Faxes (through the Control Panel) and make sure the printer is NOT listed. If it does - delete it.
5. This is an important step, follow carefully:

  1. Start -> Run.
  2. Type in: cmd
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Type in: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
  5. Press Enter.
  6. Type in: devmgmt.msc
  7. Press Enter.
  8. Device Manager window should be opened. Click on View.
  9. Click Show hidden devices.
  10. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. branch and delete ALL "grayed-out" devices under it (right click on them, then click Uninstall; click OK).
  11. Repeat step 13 for any grayed-out devices (if exist) under: a) Printer; b) DOT4 (not sure what the exact branch name - but it's something like this); c) Other devices. (** If you want, you can remove all the non-present (grayed-out) devices in all preset - except for in Non-Plug and Play Drivers [which is too risky if you don't know what you're doing]).
  12. Close the Device Manager.
6. Restart again.
7. Reinstall the printer software/driver (DON'T PLUG THE USB CORD YET) using the installation CD (or better, download the latest software from here!).
8. Plug the USB cord when asked - or when setup is done.

Please do tell if your problem's still unsolved!

Good luck,
Pelu.

    Hi there,

First and foremost, I want to apologize for not getting back to you sooner, you were so quick in your response! I had a lot to do today, but I promise you I will get back to you sooner. While I have you here, when it says USB port, exactly which USB do I use. I have the one that is labeled USB print port, but where is it? I have my own photoeditor and all that, and that is why I don't want all the other attachments that come with HP, it's a waste of space. Thanks for being so patient and I will get back to you.

    Thank you,

    Bev

    Hi again Bev!

Like most printers today, your printer should connect to the computer using a USB cable.
This cable connects to the USB connector at the back of the printer (near the power cord connector) on one side, and on the other side - to ANY free USB port at the REAR SIDE of your computer (many times, the front USB ports do NOT work good with printers). If you're connecting the printer using a USB hub, it MUST have it's own power adapter, otherwise your printer will fail to work properly.

I'm well aware of the fact that HP likes to add in a lot of junk... Just download and install the BASIC software/driver. In any case, you can always uninstall unwanted software elements through Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features).

By the way, I live in Israel and it's 4:30AM right now... Sow I'd go to sleep, if you don't mind :)
I'd be glad you assist you more, if necessary, as I'll wake up!

    Best regards,
    Pelu.

    Hello again,

After using a "forced unenstall" program I have, I went to download the driver, I got a message that the download couldnt work because of a "reg svr" error. I don't know what the heck that is, but if it doesn't work, I'm probably going to purchase another printer, and save the aggravation. Anyway, I've got to get some bills paid today, so I know what to look for. You've been such a help and I am grateful to you for the fine service. I'm going to do that tomorrow, just no time to fool with it now.

    Thank you so much!

    Bev

Sorry I couldn't answer earlier (had some issues with Fixya)...

Regarding your regsvr32 issue, I can't really help you since you didn't give my enough information. In any case, if you still want to deal with it, try searching Microsoft's knowledge base about your specific error message.

You said you can't DOWNLOAD the file, or maybe you meant INSTALLING....
If it's a downloading issue, try using a different browser, such as Firefox.

In any case, I would really appreciate it if you accepted (rate) my solution, if you find it useful!

    Best regards,
    Pelu.

    Hi Pelu,

I can't get the printer to work again, same error on all updates. I believe that I will look around for a new printer. I'm installing and downloading in FireFox, maybe I'll try IE. Firefox, I think, has gotten to secure - or I goofed in one of their security settings. Thanks for all of your help, but the printer is so out of date now, I'm better off getting a new one - not HP!

Though HP has some new models that tend to be very economic in ink costs, if you're looking for other printer brands, I would recommend Canon or Brother.

    PLEASE rate my solution :)

Hi there! If you haven`t used the printer in 2-3 months the black ink cartridge has gona dry.Wich means the printer is seeing full ink but the ink isn`t actually coming out from the ink head.Take a peace of clean cloth or cotton and clear the bottom part of the ink head(be verry carfully while cleaning it cuz you may dmg the head.If that doesn`t help just go and buy a new ink cartridge and it will solve your problem.

Black ink will not print

Have you tried setting the color to black cartridge only. You may be printing the black with a combination of colored inks. I occasionally have a similar problem. Sometimes I can get the black to work by taking a paper towel dampened with distilled water and holding it against the cartridge print head until I see black ink coming out. Replace the cartridge and try printing again. If this doesn't work try a new cartridge and run through your Printer Settings, making sure they are all set properly.

HP A636 will not print yellow; tricolor cartridge is new

  • Align the print cartridge.
The printer automatically aligns the print cartridge after a new one is installed. You can also align the print cartridge at other times to ensure optimal print quality. Indications that you need to align the print cartridge manually include borderless prints with white space
along an edge, colors not printing satisfactorily, or poor print quality.

To align the print cartridge from the printer
  1. Load a sheet of HP Advanced Photo Paper in the input tray.
  2. Touch the Setup icon to display the Setup menu. For more information, see "Setup Menu" on page 16.
  3. Touch Cartridge.
  4. Touch Align Cartridge and follow the prompts.

Clean the print cartridge automatically.
If the printed pages are missing lines or dots or contain ink streaks, the print cartridge might be low on ink or need to be cleaned.
CAUTION: Clean the print cartridge only when necessary.
Unnecessary cleaning wastes ink and shortens the life of the cartridge.

  • Clean the cartridge.
Follow these steps to clean the cartridge automatically:
To clean the print cartridge from the printer,
  1. Touch the Setup icon to display the Setup menu. For more information, see "Setup Menu" on page 16.
  2. Touch Cartridge.
  3. Touch Clean Cartridge and follow the prompts.
If the documents are still missing lines or dots after cleaning, replace the print cartridge.

We have HP Photosmart 8050. We had a paper jam but was able to clear it. However, it will not print from the computer. We were able stat and color alignment page, so we know paper is getting through and...

There will be something in there, whether it is toner/ink over a sensor, a paperclip/staple, or a tiny scrap of paper.
The trick with this one is patience, methodically strip it down as far as you can, checking as you go for stuck material, and once you have gone as far as you can put it back together nice and slowly, looking for broken connections and loose bits, then try it again.

If there is nothing in there then the printer has something broken and needs looking at by a technician, in this case you should turn to your warrenty.

HP Photosmart Printer, Mac won't recognize with USB

Sounds like their is not communications between your printer and computer. Could be a bad USB cable - swap out and see if that fixes it. If not it could be a faulty USB port on the computer or printer. You can check the computer USB port by connecting another device, but there is no way to check the HP's USB port. I would also check printer USB port for dust bunnies! If you're not able to resolve, I think it is time for another printer.

Printer not printing properly

When you changed the cartridges, the printer automatically prits a test / calibration page. This page must be placed in the scanner, then you have to press the "scan" key (the green one). It will calibrate an align the system. Then you'll be able to print.

HP Photosmart C3100 series

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.
