There is precious little info within the owners manual about scanning. I need to know how to scan docs into 'my documents' and have them be editable. Sorry for the ignorance! Any help will be much appreciated!

Re: scanning documents into files
Did you read the software manual which is part of the install cd? Or download it here: www.brother.com (choose country and your mfc). At faq you will find some more important infos about scanning by help of paperport.

First of the Brother has a Software program itself that you will need to load to be able to do any scanning. When you use this software to scan a document you can then change the scan to be the type of file you need it to be like the microsoft word (.doc) file. Please understand the even though you scan a document does not mean when you get into the '.doc' word 2005 format you can go word or letter by letter. It still acts like a picture not a document you can manipulate. Blessings, A/V Media Guy
Well once you have digitized all the documents can they all be converted to PDF?
THen all you need to do is to make sure the titles are in numeric order as page 1 - whatever
Adobe PDF acrobat professional lets you place them all into one doc.
On the left open page options at the top of this menu you can insert after of befor all the rest of the docs just open the lead doc and then add pages to thea you will build a book
What model? If it has a touch screen do what it says: In "scanner mode" touch the "status" button on the screen..all scans show up with the status.Touch the appropriate scan, and touch "delete" (or cancel)
I got this message too, before I installed an OCR program. It may be that you need to install one (or specify it, if you have one already). With my MP610, an installation disk was included that contained the OmniPage SE program for OCR. When I installed that on my computer, and told MP Navigator (another Canon-supplied program, that controls scanning) to use it as the "Open With" program for OCR, it worked.
ok...can you scan from the front panel controls, at all? Is this a computer manager fault? Let's isolate this, shall we? you should be able to scan from buttons on front, by placing a doc on the glass, and pressing scan..
well you are able to scan multiple documents.. but the file size is more.. the way lexmark software writes the pdf file.. the file will be huge for PDF... but not sure if this is a case with any other all in one manufacturer like HP also... but i would assume it would be the same..
so scan the file to MS WORD or any other application that supports multiple pages... so u have it as one file... but if u want only pdf files, then u have to do a little work around like writing the MS WORD Document to pdf format. If the PDF Writer is not installed with your copy of MSWORD then try any free pdf writer software available on the internet.
