Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer
Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that the issue is with a bad lid switch and to resolve this it should be replaced. Lid switch is located inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. In the below picture part#11 is the lid switch:
