my tv will not stay turned on. The little green power light turns on and the tv sounds like its it going to turn on and then all of a sudden it just turns itself off. I do not see a picture but I start to hear it right before it turns off. I need help asap!

Unplugged tv for the week I was away on vacation. I returned and plugged set back in. Green power/timer LED flashed rapidly for about a minute as it usually does when power is restored. Now the TV does not power up. No LED, nada. Zilch. Unplugged then plugged back in after a few minutes, same thing happens. Pressed system reset in with paperclip, same results as unplugging and plugging back in. The set is five years old. Is this a power supply problem?

Interestingly, I experienced the same problem. I have had my set for about 5 years and just yesterday the TV just turned off. At first I thought it was a power surge so I unplugged and plugged it back in after a few minutes. The green LED flashed as it does when the power goes off. I tried to turn the set back on via the button on the front panel and through the remote. Neither worked. I replaced my surge protector, switched outlets and even reset my breakers - to no avail. My last attempt was to press the re-set button with a paper clip and this did not work either. It just seems like there is a problem with the set getting and maintaining power.
I would appreciate any ideas - other and wielding a sledgehammer to the set.

I fixed it! I read another HDTV forum suggestion that due to possible switch "bleed", try running your finger back and forth rapidly along the row of buttons on the front of the tv several times. I did so figuring this was just a buch of mumbo jumbo and guess what? It worked! After my second pass of sweeping the buttons, the power kicked on and it has been working properly ever since. Beats the hell out taking the set apart, especially since most people in the forums agree that there is a DM circuit board that often has capacitors that go bad, about a thousand bucks to replace if you have a pro do it, a couple of bucks if you are IC board savy and do it yourself.

I have experienced the same problem (just went off - now acts like it wants to turn on, then turns off immediately) just recently with a set that is approximately 5 years old. From all the similar posts, there must be an inherent problem with this model. The posting of a possible solution would be helpful. Asking if the stand-by light is on provides no solution. By the way, no, the stand-by light isn't on.

Is there any indication on the front at all? Standby light?

There are a number of reasons for the listed behavior. Mitsubishi sets are known for having bad capacitors on the "DM" board that can cause this. Also, problems within the convergence circuit or power supply can show up this way as well. Since the original questioner "resolved" the problem by moving some wires, this implies that there are some questionable connections inside the set. You should always check the boards for bad solder connections as that is one of the most common issues inside a set. Specifically check around the convergence ICs (large black ICs marked STKxxx) and the flyback transformer.

Many times these sets will show an error code by blinking the standby light.

Can you turn off the FPA lock without an original remote? If so, how?

If you remember your pass word then you can use any remote that operates the TV to reset the menu selection. However if you don't remember the password, then sorry, the original remote must be used.
Below is the procedure to set up the menu for front panel lock, unlock and the password reset.

Front Panel

Selecting this option lets you lock (disable) or unlock (enable) the TV's front

panel buttons. The remote still tunes to any channel so remember to remove

access to any remote that can operate the television.

1. Choose Parental Control from the Main Menue and press the OK button.

2. Enter your passworcd.

3. Press the down arrow to highlight Front Panel.

4. Press the right or left arrow button to choose unlock (_) or lock (_).

I don't remember my password and I want to unlock the TV

If you forget your password, you must reset it. Make sure the TV is of. Press VOL- (down) on the TV's front panel and then

CLEAR on the remote for approxhnately 5 seconds. The TV turns on. Enter a new password next time you access
the PARENATAL CONTROL menu or the TIME_menu.

Tv not coming on

try removing batteries from all remotes, a faulty remote may be turning your TV on/off. If it still does this, there is a power problem and you likely need a tech to look at it.

Green power light will not stop flashing and tv will not turn on or off

You need to replace the 1000uf capacitors on the DM board thats the classic symptom of the DM caps being bad the light continues to blink repeatedly. If you need more info on the repair let me know.

Sony 27" wont turn off!!!!

It looks like one of the buttons on the front panel is stuck, base on the info you have provided; the volumen down button is stuck. The remote or any other buttons will not be operative until the fault has been remove.
I would suggest to try to press the Vol. down a few times just to see of it unlocks, if that does not work, the front panel assembly will have to be remove and try again if it works with the remote or manually.
The last thing to do if none of the above works, it will be to put a new switch.
Good Luck.

TV On/Off button blinks but never turns on.

Ok you did not cause the problem as you could always turn on the TV set from the front panel button,, If the TV set will not turn on even with the front panel button, there is a major fault with the TV set. This is not a reset that can be done by the user as there is a circuit fault and will require you to take the TV set into a shop to be diagnoised or replaced. Good Luck
