Plug it into the cd input, with the two rca cables. We've had this set up for years. No longer use a cd player at all.

SOURCE: Power will not stay on

Activated protection circuitry means that the amplifier is seeing conditions it does not like and is shutting down the power to prevent further damage.
Either you have a short in your speaker wires, in your speakers, or a blown amplifier.
Disconnect both speakers and turn on the amplifier. Does it still give the error message? If it does, your amp is blown. If it does not, carefully inspect your speaker wires and their connection. Make sure all looks good and reconnect the speakers and try it again. Still get the error message? You likely have a problem in your speaker cabinet(s).

It wouldn't be your output transistors. If they go bad they blow the fuse. Sounds like a speaker relay problem. Have you checked the solder connections on the relays? They sometimes break down. If that doesn't help, I would replace the relay. Center channel goes through RY501. Sony p/n: 1-755-170-11.

Yamaha RX-V663 zone 2 stopped working.... I no longer hear the 'relay clicking sound' when activating zone 2...how do I fix this?

Hello
The power supply sectionand the relay control section should be checked. There is control transistors which activates the relay control. If this transistor has damaged, of it does not get any voltage, the relay will not click. In most cases, if the output transistors got shorted, the set will come by protection state. Here you reports that only relay is not working. Just open the set and check the voltages at the "collector" pin of the relay drive transistor. You have ot disassemble the whole circuit board as these transistors are not accessable without get the boads out. Actuallly this is a very skilled work and care should be taken in all respect. If you are not aware in elctronics, and haven't proper tools and a digital multimeter, soldering iron, you can do this work. Otherwise get it repaired by any experienced service technician. OK.

Powers up but no sound

Heve you checked if the transistors are working properly ? Are you using speakers with correct impedance ? Do you use to listen headphones without turning off speakers switch ? And last but not least, are all connections correct ? Are all speakers in good condition and properly conneted, with the same impedance ? Some mistakes seem to be silly, but all of us someday made them.Good Luck.
