Question about Hayward 250kbtu Ng Pool Heater - Inground
We got the pilot to go but pilot is lazy and the gas valve will not engage when we turn on the temperature up.then the pilot goes out
The Thermocouple is the most likely cause. But before replacing it clean out the pilot orifice. Sounds like it may be partially clogged. You should have a nice wide flame that is hitting the thermocouple dead on. The thermocouple is a safety device that shuts the gas off if the pilot goes out. If it is defective no gas will flow. This is a very common problem with gas heaters.
